If one were so lucky to receive a 1L SA offer, is there any scenario where a non-SA job (public interest type) would be beneficial in the long run?

This. I'm curious about DOJ.

I applied very early, like soon after the vacancy opened (early December I think) and didn't submit grades because they aren't out yet for us. I do have substantial pre-LS work experience that's very relevant to this particular component's mission, so I think that helped a lot.

Take this with an enormous grain of salt because I'm a fellow 1L and also don't know shit about shit, but if anyone out there gunning for firms is planning to apply to government stuff as an easy fallback, I'd get on that ASAP. Based on what I've seen, a healthy portion of the federal stuff has already gone out.

This might be a dumb question, but are references generally contacted before or after you are called for an interview? One of my references asked me to give him a heads up if I thought he'd be contacted soon so that he can make sure he's available/checking messages regularly, etc. I'm trying to determine if I should tell him as soon as I apply for a position or when/if I am contacted for an interview.

+1. I'm also a 1LOL but approx 50% of the fed internships I've applied to already with Feb or later deadlines have indicated they're already full.

Could be between now and never, impossible to say. From my experience about a week, but some people get offered day of and some get offered a month or more later. Dings could be months away.

If you say which firm someone might have personal experience and can better answer your question.

F500 phone interview request and 1L Diversity SA screener in the last two days. F500 didn't ask for grades on app, but I imagine it'll come up during phone conversation. 1L SA was after I submitted my transcript, but they never sent me the "We got your app" or "Thanks for your grades" emails. Radio silence until they called me.

The people I know who did that last year were at UT, had law review range-ish grades, and generally strong ties to the city they got the SA in

But obviously I only know a relatively small percentage of the class so grain of salt

Top quarter or so at UT should at least put you in grade range and being a Texan would be a huge plus

The paper posted in the CSO listed both cities. I only got Houston but assume Dallas was interviewing in the room next to me. They said post interview decisions would come today or tomorrow so they may be wrapping up their search.

If you get the job, don't jump off roofs into pools. Easy way to get no offered.
