Re: Columbia EIP 2014
Just got an offer from Quinn Emanuel and noticed that the salary is $3,080 a week. For some reason this seems a bit low to me (was thinking more like $3,200). Any sense if that is in fact the market rate?

$3,080 * 52 = $160,160Anonymous User wrote:Just got an offer from Quinn Emanuel and noticed that the salary is $3,080 a week. For some reason this seems a bit low to me (was thinking more like $3,200). Any sense if that is in fact the market rate?

sometimes they will be calculated differently, for example mine was $6,667 bi-monthly, but it all adds up the same way.

$6,667 is above market. If it's bi-monthly, it's only 24 times per year instead of 26, so it comes out to $160,008 annualized.wiz wrote:$6,667 is above market. Oh yeah, good call. I read that and assumed BSF because that would be base salary every other week.

So it looks like the Interview Drop period ends pretty early...does anyone know if traditionally students have been able to cancel interviews after this period?

A rising 3L tells me OCS makes it a fucking hassle and reacts as if you're trying to murder their dogs. If you receive and have accepted an offer, I would just email the firms and cancel, and tell OCS to deal. Otherwise, I would go through with the interviews unless you have a great reason (illness, debilitating injury, alien abduction).Anonymous User wrote:So it looks like the Interview Drop period ends pretty early...does anyone know if traditionally students have been able to cancel interviews after this period?

tell OCS you received a debilitating injury from an illness acquired during an alien abduction. boom bada boom.Anonymous User wrote:A rising 3L tells me OCS makes it a fucking hassle and reacts as if you're trying to murder their dogs. I feel like someone whose dog is being murdered may be more rational and calm than OCS in many situations.Anonymous User wrote:A rising 3L tells me OCS makes it a fucking hassle and reacts as if you're trying to murder their dogs. FWIW, my salary at a V5 this summer was $3,100/week. I haven't heard of any firms paying $3,200/week.. I think most firms do $3,077.Anonymous User wrote:Just got an offer from Quinn Emanuel and noticed that the salary is $3,080 a week. For people with offers, how did you find out? Phone call, email, snail mail? And if anyone got dings from firms, same question. Thanks so much!

Phone call. No dings yet, but I hear those happen via email or mail. It'd be an awkward douche move if they called to reject you.Anonymous User wrote:For people with offers, how did you find out? Phone call, email, snail mail? And if anyone got dings from firms, same question. Thanks so much!

Just got an offer from a V5 this morning (interviewed earlier this week). Phonecall from one of the partners.
[P.S. I am SO excited to be able to drop 2/3rd of my interviews and have a pleasant(-ish) rest of EIP.]

Why not 100%? If my V5 callbacks turn to offers before Monday evening I'm cashing out.Anonymous User wrote:Just got an offer from a V5 this morning (interviewed earlier this week). Phonecall from one of the partners.

Because there are a handful of other firms I haven't scored early interviews with that I still might consider. (Notably the DC firms.) But I fully expect to take the last week of August off for the beach!Anonymous User wrote:Why not 100%? Safest bet will probably be your moot court brief. That went through a bunch of revisions and got a good amount of feedback. A 2-3 draft sample from this summer is probably not the best choice.Anonymous User wrote:What are people using as writing samples?

So this might be a dumb question, but how much of the brief are people including? Just the argument section or the statement of the facts and that sort of thing as well?txdude45 wrote:Safest bet will probably be your moot court brief. Also, not that it matters at this point as we'll find out for sure in a couple of hours, but is anyone else a little surprised at the attachment to the latest EIP email with firms that are likely to have open slots available for pick up? Davis Polk, K&L Gates, Winston Strawn all on the list when FFB had them at around 20.

I included facts and argument sections. It's 10 pages. Is that too long? I haven't written many compelling briefs this summer (usually around 3 pages, very client-specific, and not a lot of complex or interesting legal issues).MCFC wrote:So this might be a dumb question, but how much of the brief are people including? No, only because we haven't received edits on it and I don't trust myself to re-read it now without having a PTSD episode. Also, not that bluebooking matters, but the citations might look a little weird to someone who doesn't know the assignment.Anonymous User wrote: Anyone using their LR write-on?
I did the stipulations, facts, and argument of my moot court brief.
