Yes, I agree. It would seem that initial offers went out around the week after Thanksgiving. Those with offers were given around a month to accept or decline. (Until the 29th) Then, OCIJ apparently follows up mid-December with offerees to check in and make sure that they are still considering the offer. I would imagine that they receive a trickle of applicants declining offers over the course of the month, and I would predict that the second major wave of offers will come out at some point after the 29th.Anonymous User wrote:
I think if you get an offer in January you must be an alternate because those who received offers have a deadline of December 30th to accept so it just makes sense. Even if an offer is given for a bigger city there are tons of reasons why someone might have turned down that offer.

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
I mean, I guess. I don't see why someone would turn down an offer to a big city that is probably top of the list for a lot of people, unless they got another job or never wanted this one that much. That kind of scares me though, it looks like academically qualified people with immigration experience are still alternates.Anonymous User wrote:I think if you get an offer in January you must be an alternate because those who received offers have a deadline of December 30th to accept so it just makes sense. From last year's thread it looks like the offers continue in January. I also know someone who got an offer in January for a desirable city, and she is not someone I would think would be an alternate.
I know at some point the spots will be taken up, but it seems like a Sloooow process.

Yes but I know FTC is getting back to people now so maybe if we are alternates, the first choice people will get FTC offers that they take and more offers will go out?Anonymous User wrote:Still radio silence for those waiting to hear from ATR?Anonymous User wrote:Same here.Anonymous User wrote:Not as far as I know. Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
I feel like there are sooo many qualified people for the Honors Program though so a lot of the candidates probably get multiple job offers both through DOJ and outside employers. Also maybe OCIJ was ranked last for some people just because you get to pick three components. I was given an offer and I have not accepted yet as I am considering another offer I have outside of DOJ as they are both jobs I really want. For some people the two year clerkship might not look as good in the face of an offer for permanent employment or one with a higher starting salary.Anonymous User wrote:I mean, I guess. Does anyone know if the OJIC people will tell you if you are an alternate or not if you ask them?

I think so call Celia Kuikan you should have gotten her business card when you interviewed. I had another job offer so I called to see and she told me I was on the list and when I asked could I be an alternate she said no first round and was going to receive an offer and I did the next day.Anonymous User wrote:Oops, OCIJ, sorryAnonymous User wrote:Does anyone know if the OJIC people will tell you if you are an alternate or not if you ask them?

Accepting an honors offer makes us eligible to start earning loan forgiveness right? Anyone know?

Once you start working, your loan payments will count toward the 120 you need for PSLF, yes.

Does the loan forgiveness also count if you are doing the two year clerkship for OCIJ I thought I saw somewhere (maybe another years thread) that it would not be eligible but I do not see why because perhaps you would come out of the clerkship and continue employment with the government. Thanks!Anonymous User wrote:Once you start working, your loan payments will count toward the 120 you need for PSLF, yes.

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
It should. As far as I know, the requirement is that you make 120 payments (max. one each month) under income based repayment or pay as you earn (depending on what you're eligible for) while you're working for a non-profit or local, state, or federal government.Anonymous User wrote:Does the loan forgiveness also count if you are doing the two year clerkship for OCIJ I thought I saw somewhere (maybe another years thread) that it would not be eligible but I do not see why because perhaps you would come out of the clerkship and continue employment with the government. Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Yes, it counts. As long as you're working for the Feds (or state or local govt, as well as some kinds of non-profits) your payments go to PSLF. You need 120 payments, but they don't have to be consecutive. So you could work for the government for 2 years, then work for a firm for a year, and you'd still have 2 years worth of PSLF payments.Anonymous User wrote:Does the loan forgiveness also count if you are doing the two year clerkship for OCIJ I thought I saw somewhere (maybe another years thread) that it would not be eligible but I do not see why because perhaps you would come out of the clerkship and continue employment with the government. You're probably thinking of DOJ's loan repayment assistance program, which OCIJ is not eligible for.Anonymous User wrote:Does the loan forgiveness also count if you are doing the two year clerkship for OCIJ I thought I saw somewhere (maybe another years thread) that it would not be eligible but I do not see why because perhaps you would come out of the clerkship and continue employment with the government.
