I'm not doing PLIP, but I can tell you how it was at SFIPLA. Probably half the people only had a padfolio. Those who had a bag had something work-appropriate or close to it. (Black messenger bag/attache for men, black tote for women.) A few, including me, had laptops or ipads. We were waiting around in a sort of secondary library, so there were plugs all over (different from how PLIP will be). I busted out the laptop and got some work done during the day, and I don't think I was the only one. People who didn't have a computer were playing on phones, plugged in if they had a charger.
I even had my suitcase with me, which they let me park at the check-in table.

A) Is this advisable to do or should I be working on networking and other things instead? B) Is it unseemly or unsightly to carry around a backpack to one of these events or should we stick to briefcases or folios?MrProhibition wrote:Who are people making their cover letters out to for Loyola? And what are people toting all their papers around in? Messenger bags? Backpacks?
I'm also curious if people know how the plug situation will be for charging phones/laptops/etc. I can imagine a lot of PLIP'ers crowding around only a few available outlets.
Just say no to a backpack. Spring for a messenger bag. A backpack is a constant reminder that you're a law student, and you want the firms to view you as a future lawyer, not a current law student.

Do people generally have to print out extra copies of their undergrad transcript outside of the firms who specifically asked for them?

I just got an email adding another interview to my schedule from a firm I was 5th alternate for. There is hope! Now I just have a 13th alternate to shoot for at the cattle call.
Also, I have an unranked alternate position left to try and snag. I wonder how they call out the names for that since there are no rankings for those firms for the alternates? Alphabetical order? Lottery?

Its when you pull out your tux and drink martini, unless you plan on giving out your resumes to your fellow colleagues, I do not think it will be necessary.Jsa725 wrote:can someone please explain the SKGF reception tomorrow night. is it basically a mingling/networking thing? i am asking because i am not planning on bringing any materials with me to the event.
On the second thought...

you could always fold up your resume in a fun origami pattern and stick it in your pocket. that way, if you need to give it to someone, you have a legitimate excuse for a creased-up resume, and you'll be memorable! and if you're wearing a tux in addition to that, well, let's just say you will have made a memorable impressionJsa725 wrote: i am not planning on bringing any materials with me to the event.

I packed my bag this morning, zipped it up, and then remembered I actually needed to pack a suit or two!

This is the biggest "duh" question I've seen in this entire thread. I hope you aren't serious.fishfry111 wrote:So, for Wednesday night, before it begins, what time is the event?
Also, SUITS???

Protip - wear suits to both. You'll never look over dressed for an event like this, but you'll sure feel like a shit head if you're cruising around as the only guy without a jacket. Nothing says "hai guiz, I've never worked in a professional environment" like that.Jsa725 wrote:Wednesday reception: bizcas attire
