D.C. was the backup market. Just wish Career Services would've been upfront about DC being this tough.

Are you mass mailing them? One of the nice things about having ties to secondaries is that you can write a convincing cover letter and don't have to spend a bid on them.

I had 5 or so interviews that led to a couple callbacks from mass mailing. No pre-contact at all. Get grinding, asap.

Well, I mass mailed them. Which means they weren't OCI.

I don't care how many CBs you have, you shouldn't be "comfortable" until at least one of them turns into an offer. Do the best with what you've got.

Don't worry about callbacks....worry about offers. 2 callbacks and 2 offers >>>>>>> 12 callbacks and 1 offer (depending on firm).

Right now, the only thing worth your time is job-searching. Which means you have a ton of time to spend on job-searching. Massmailing is a numbers game. You must mail tons to get any interviews. You're late. Get to work. If you don't know what you're doing, ask here on TLS for guidance. But for the love of God, don't dismiss massmailing as a waste of time because of a lack of "pre-contact" or whatever.

This bears repeating. The only thing that's worth your time until you get a job is job hunting. A lot of people get dejected by doing badly at OCI and double-down on school because that's at least something they understand. This is a bad idea. Obviously you do need to work in November, December during finals to keep up your grades, but you need to be devoting an inordinate amount of time to job searching, especially during September and October where nothing else important is going on. Journal, extracurriculars, classroom attendance, etc, all take a back-seat to the job search.

Re: classes, do not buy the bullshit the administration tells you about scheduling callbacks around classes. Schedule the earliest callbacks you can, even if that means blowing off classes. I didn't go to a single class the first two weeks of 2L because I was traveling for callbacks. The professors are totally understanding.

Chicago CB: Baker McKenzie
Chicago Dings: Kirkland, Paul Hastings (just today), and Skadden
Chicago Crickets: Latham (since both dings and CBs went out a while ago, I'm thinking I must be in a pile for second round of CBs?)

DC CBs: Sidley, hogan lovells, Steptoe, Cadwalder
DC Dings: WilmerHale, Cleary Gottlieb

London CBs: clifford chance, Linklaters, Freshfields
London Dings: Allen & Overy

Hope this helps someone! Oh, and I went to undergrad in DC - so maybe that helped with the market? (or not bidding on the Arnold & Porters or Covington Burlings of the world)

+1 to this. While I am a lowly rising 2L I am basically going to miss the first week + of classes b/c of travelling for callbacks. I emailed the professors and they were fine with it. One uncurved class I'm in I thought about dropping b/c it is participation heavy. The prof said to keep the class, we would work something out, and to go to my cb interviews.
