Is anyone else in a position where they are thinking of dragging their feet even if their firm sticks to a "Expectations of people spending majority of time in office after labor day" type plan?

I find it hard to believe a) they will be tracking everyone so closely, b) they won't work with people on a case by case basis... in general i feel like the idea of forcing someone to move somewhere would be difficult in practice

My firm has been back in office 3-5 days a week since June 1, but I’ve strictly stuck to 3 days a week. I figure I won’t get fired for it so eh

Fried Frank was supposed to be back in office a couple days a week in September and has decided to postpone that indefinitely.

Currently going into office is 100% voluntary and will stay that way until further notice (but you still must be fully vaccinated to go in).

All firms that don't want to postpone return to the office can point to S&C and say look, they've been back for two months and we're much nicer.

A vaccinated person at our in-person optional firm tested positive for and has symptoms of Covid, and of course they were one of the few that came in. Fun!

Are they doing 3 days a week thing or fully in person?

Do we have a list of v50 firms that are still planning to mandate butts in chairs in September? It seems like most of the market has realized that news of breakthrough infections, the CDC suggesting booster shots are needed, raising cases in the unvaccinated communities due to Delta, and the continued lack of vaccination availability for those under 12 make mandating a return to office unjustifiable at the moment.

Making everyone return to office because it is safe, but then saying everyone must wear a mask in shared spaces because it is not safe, is a ridiculous position (one that my firm is taking).

Skimming the thread, these are the firms that seem to be sticking to a September (or sooner) return to office: Davis Polk, Simpson Thacher, Milbank, Skadden, Sullivan & Cromwell. Who else?

This. Don’t bring us back to the office until we can do so without masks

Your second paragraph is milbank’s ridiculous position (I know I’m there). Are you also at Milbank or is another firm also making this asinine choice?

Curious where you heard this? I have a friend there who said that no announcement has been made about a delay to the original timeline of mid-September.

All offices, but unclear how this will impact incoming first years. We're currently at "coming in is completely optional" which means almost nobody goes in. Maybe they'll want you to be in person to onboard and get set up in an office...I'm not sure. I'd ask your recruiter.

Milbank. I am not sure if other firms are taking this position.

Hoping we receive more news this week. The return date is three weeks away and it seems that only a handful of firms are sticking to their plan (while plenty of other firms, and other industries, are making the correct decision to extend wfh).

K&E at a satelitte office. I, and the main local partner I work with, don't go in ever. Rest of the partners I work with are different offices so they wouldn't know. I don't even know our official policy.

Edit: Nvm I see an old email that we should be going back in November.

I’m in a secondary/tertiary market that went from WFH, to return with masks, to no masks for vaccinated, and just went back to mandatory masks for all. I have a newborn, and our state has double digit percentages in positive covid cases for those vaccinated. I do not want to be in the office right now, and feel that I shouldn’t have to be.

I hate that for no good reason we're being made to go into situations where we feel unsafe. I'm not even asking for permanent wfh -- I just need the offices that are bringing people back in on principle to stop..

Milbank's mandatory return to office has been deferred from 9/13 to 11/1 at the earliest, with a one-month notice prior to the new return date. The firm is still encouraging people to return to the office on 9/13 (if able) for three days a week. Masks are still required in common spaces and shared offices.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
