How did you frame the email? I'm thinking of doing the same, but want to appear to be saying "Hey, I sent an app, make note of me."Anonymous User wrote:Cold email.Anonymous User wrote:Did you know the partner beforehand and butter him up with the song & dance routine ("just want 'advice,' that's all"), or did you cold email him and in that very first email cut to the chase by attaching your materials and noting that HR should also have a copy as a way to tell the partner that you're interested in a job there?Anonymous User wrote: Applied through Symplicity, also emailed a partner alum (unclear if said person forwarded my docs though).
CCN, around top 1/3.

How long is it realistic to wait to hear back from a boutique firm I inteviewed with at 3L oci about a call back? Tomorrow makes it a week.

Wow, it seems like 3L hiring is really dead this year

Are you basing this on the dearth of TLS posts or what? Because last year's thread didn't pick up with good news until late Aug/SeptAnonymous User wrote:Wow, it seems like 3L hiring is really dead this year

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
I know quite a few firms that did 3L hiring last year are not doing it this year. I asked friends to speak to the HR in their firms and many said tha there was no plan to hire outside of the class.Anonymous User wrote:Are you basing this on the dearth of TLS posts or what? Re: 3L OCI Thread.
The firms I want to work at are not doing 3L hiring. Do I have any chance at working there in a couple years, or have those ships sailed?
For context, I will be working at a similar firm in the same market. I want to switch because of practice areas.

FYI: BuckleySandler DC is hiring 3Ls for Fall '17. A significant number. Apply via their website, no specific job opening, but definitely hiring.

So, I got a response from a firm asking me what practice groups I'm interested in. How broad can I be? Id like to put around 3 ot 4 practices within transactional.

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
If possible, I would ask a contact (meaning a friend, not recruiting) at the firm where they need bodies. I would also check the firm's job listings to see if one of the groups you're interested in has a posting. Other than that, just go with what you're interested in but I would limit to 2-3 groups. I think it would make it harder to land an offer if you only meet like 1 person from each group on a CB.Anonymous User wrote:So, I got a response from a firm asking me what practice groups I'm interested in. Re: 3L OCI Thread.
Yea, a friend of mine connected me with the firm, and they told me of the three principal practices that need bodies. I put those and a fourth that may be a bit popular.

Re: 3L OCI Thread.
So I've been cold-mailing firms to see if they are hiring 3Ls. I've received sporadic responses and a lot of them say that they are not hiring for Fall 2017. Can y'all kind and good-hearted TLSers with more knowledge advise what firms and offices are hiring 3Ls this year?

Similar. Most firms I talk to say they are not hiring. If it's not happening now, is a lateral in a few years the best option?Anonymous User wrote:So I've been cold-mailing firms to see if they are hiring 3Ls. Also interested. Anybody aware of firms hiring in the NY market? At this point I've lost motivation to network because what good is that if the firms just aren't hiring 3Ls...Anonymous User wrote:So slow this year, or is it just to early to tell yet? Anyone have any movement in the NY market?
