Like most things in any workplace, just don't do anything questionable on day 1, and then figure out what is permissible after that.

Ironic coming from the idiot who responds to my post a week after it was made. Do you know what the verb "retard" actually means?BIG dawg wrote:hey brah you are coming off as full retard in this thread, you might want to dial it down a bitSLS_AMG wrote:This is just a dumb comment that goes to show how insufferable lawyers are. Re: Do you wear headphones at work? Is that weird?
The problem with headphones is that when you are a SA folks are constantly coming into your office to meet you. The way my computer was set up my back was to the door. I think if I had headphones people would think I wasn't as accessible or friendly. So headphones are not weird...but socializing is a huge part of the SA, and you don't want to do anything to detract from that.

Are you serious? If I walk into somebody's office and I see them with headphones on, I don't think "this person must be unfriendly." I think "this person must like music." Y'all are way overthinking this stuff.jdmonkey wrote:The problem with headphones is that when you are a SA folks are constantly coming into your office to meet you. Whenever I see them with headphones I automatically assume they are working. I can't wait til the boomers are gone so this is the automatic assumptionDanny Mothers wrote:Are you serious? It was very common at my prior job. My boss would laugh when he realized I heard nothing he said because I had earphones in the entire time and didn't even see him.
I'm giving it some time to settle in at the new job before I go it. I've already had people turn my light on in jest as they pass. One thing at a time...

i would not wear headphones. In my SA class, getting to know people was just as important as doing good work. If you have headphones on, I think you'll be more likely to miss opportunities to get to know and meet others in your office.

You work with your lights off? There were a couple of DOJ attorneys who did this and I couldn't fathom it. I like to be blinded by light in an officeJenDarby wrote:It was very common at my prior job. I have a wall of windows so unless it's gloomy i get a lot of natural light. I'm not really a fan of fluorescent lighting.Nebby wrote:You work with your lights off? If I ever do OCI interviews I'm going to lead off with, "Interesting resume. What do you think about people wearing headphones at work?"Glasseyes wrote:I'm glad this thread continues to bring out the best in people.

And the correct answer involves arguing both sides and quoting someone from this thread.Avian wrote:If I ever do OCI interviews I'm going to lead off with, "Interesting resume. Yeah, if I can go without fluorescent lighting I will. I know a couple of people in windowless offices who hate fluorescent so much they just use a desk or floor lamp and work in dim little caves, and I can't go that far. But fluorescent is awful.JenDarby wrote:I have a wall of windows so unless it's gloomy i get a lot of natural light. Oh good I'm glad this is a thing. I can't stand fluorescent light, and I typically work with either natural light or very soft light. Can't stand the law school classrooms that are so brightly litJenDarby wrote:I have a wall of windows so unless it's gloomy i get a lot of natural light.
