There are some applications that are asking for Letters of Recommendation, some are asking for a List of References. This is clear.
My question is about the applications that ask for "Two written references from a college or law school professor." I am not convinced that this application is asking for a list of two references.

Yeah, that sounds like a LOR. There isn't any difference, except that (usually) one is for a job and one is for LS admissions.

Thank you, Nony. I also think that it is a LOR, not just a list of references.

I think "written reference" is a LOR too but it's a bit unusual that you're encountering many different apps that ask for them. Are these ] scholly apps or jerb apps? I've been asked for LORs from scholly apps - jerb apps not so much.

2L here. Looking at this thread reminds me how stressed out i was last year. Eventually people get SAs (few), judicial internship and government internships. So don't worry guys, as long as you put in effort you will land something. But you need to try very hard if you are not in the top quarter, or top 5 if you are from a "lower ranked" school. Apply everywhere and don't just give up yet b/c you think you won't be among the high GPA ppl.

I wonder if you're allowed to contact the firm before Dec. 1 about your question about contacting the firm before Dec. 1

What do we put in the body of the email?
"Hi X, Please see attached and hire me. Best, applicant about to be rejected."

So none of your schools went to an almost wholly automated system for SA applications this year? Mine changed it to submitting your resume to career services and clicking "apply" for every firm/office you were interested in. I thought that would be a more widespread change.

If they don't ask for a diversity statement, are we supposed to make it clear why we are "diverse" in our cover letter?

Was offered my first choice summer job on Friday - applying early and networking actually works! (Government position with an early deadline, not a firm).

This seems like a clear NALP violation/violation of every schools rules re: 1L December 1st app date

Is it a legal position? If so, pretend like you got it tomorrow. Although tbh i dont think anything could actually happen. Just don't want any of your snot nosed gunner class mates to rat on you.

I'm the anon above - it was definitely not a NALP violation. It was a 1L position with a deadline in Nov. because of clearances. This is not atypical.

When applying in a secondary market, your home market, what the size of the firm should be to have a chance at a paid SA position. Is 25 or 30 people too small?

Mine did, although only for local offices that expressed interest but it felt good to apply for a bunch of firms really quickly

That is pretty much what we had (plus big local names that also had NYC/Chi/DC offices and IP firms in CA). I figured that those were my best options anyway and anything else can wait until after finals. I think I applied to 80 offices or something like that (or will have applied as of tomorrow morning).

Might be dumb, but here goes.

There are like 5 firms I want to apply to tomorrow in my home market that are known for hiring 1L's regularly for SA's.

What do I put in the body of my email? Do I just copy and paste the cover letter? Is there a standard format for doing this? Also, how does this work since we don't have grades yet? I truly don't understand.

I apologize if this has been previously addressed.
