I know they were 100% this past year, but anyone know anything about mintz's trend of no-offering a one or two people every year prior?

if you haven't heard either way, you're in their hold pile. heard from someone that all offers are out at the moment, but can't confirm. also since their class is so small, they probably need to wait until people decline before issuing more. can confirm that multiple offers are out.

Mintz is not going to hire more summers than it has (or expects to have) permanent associate positions. You wouldn't be "competing" against other summers; only against yourself.

Calling the few recent no-offers a "trend" might be overstating things. Reportedly, these few no-offers were more a matter of "fit" than work product.

Nevertheless, I think it's fair to say that Mintz evaluates its SAs more intensively than -- for example -- Ropes or Goodwin. That's at least partly a function of having a rather small class as compared to the overall size of the firm.

This is exactly what i was looking for, and I frankly find it more terrifying than work-product issues. Thanks!

What are your thoughts on Mintz's corporate group? I'm interested in VC/Startup work, and it seems like they do a good bit of it, but they're not ranked on Chambers, whereas foley hoag, a seemingly peer firm, is band 2. Is this just because they're more focused on M&A, or am I missing something here?

Personally, I don't put much stock in Chambers rankings. For one reason, the Boston market is so small and interconnected that a series of conversations with seasoned attorneys will yield far greater insight.

At any rate, I'll offer the opinion that Mintz's corporate group is terrific and -- perhaps more important -- busy. They've been adding junior and mid-level laterals at a brisk pace.

The firm is well established in the Venture Capital and Start-Up Companies games, but I'd also say that foley hoag is the better bet in those spheres (esp. Start-Ups). Mintz may be pulling even or getting ahead, though, as the firm continues to generate business in creative ways. (See, e.g., its recent involvement with the Hult Prize competition: http://www.mintz.com/news-events/news/a ... -finalists).

I applied for Ropes new diversity scholarship program. I have it on authority many of their offers will go out later due to saving spots for scholarship recipients.

Can you apply for the diversity scholarship if you're still awaiting a decision? Or only if you've already received an offer?
