Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
First callback today, the interviews were so different than any I had previously had or had prepared for. They all just wanted to shoot the shit. The first partner literally just talked almost the entire time. Generally, it was fine, I just wasn't sure where the line was in terms of shooting the shit and promoting myself.

if you're promoting yourself then in most law firm interviews, something has likely gone terribly, terribly wrong.Anonymous User wrote:First callback today, the interviews were so different than any I had previously had or had prepared for. Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
I don't agree that promoting yourself is a bad thing if it is done NATURALLY. in fact, for some people it is necessary (if you're top 10% at T14, you basically just have to talk normally, but if you're at median, you ARE gonna have to promote yourself).
And by promote yourself naturally, i mean, when they ask tell me about yourself, you mention the legal experiences you've had (generally your narrative should also involve law, so this is natural). If they ask why you like law school and you say " oh, its great, ive learned so much, and ive been able to apply it to my jobs at .... " you're totally just shamelessly promoting yourself by not even answering their question really.

Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
I can only speak from my experience during the recruiting season but for me, my best interviews were where there was no discussion about "the law" and/or I barely said anything. Talking at length about my experience with "the law," especially as a rising 2L who barely even knows what a tort is, was always bad news bears.OutoftheWoods wrote:I don't agree that promoting yourself is a bad thing if it is done NATURALLY. in fact, for some people it is necessary (if you're top 10% at T14, you basically just have to talk normally, but if you're at median, you ARE gonna have to promote yourself).

Yeah, I probably fucked it up by talking too much about dumb shit. Oh well, at least there are more to go.BigZuck wrote:I can only speak from my experience during the recruiting season but for me, my best interviews were where there was no discussion about "the law" and/or I barely said anything. Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
What is the screener --> CB timeline like outside of OCI? I had 2 screeners a week ago with firms that are coming to my school's OCI. Am I SOL or is there a chance they'll hold off and try to schedule my CB along with the other CBs from my school?

Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
Are most of these CB's coming after screeners, or is it straight to CB? And if there are screeners, are you going into the firm's office to do them or are you doing them over the phone?

+1 to post-CB wait being excruciating.
My CB was Tuesday afternoon. How long have people been waiting to hear back? Usually less than two days?

Anywhere from a couple of days to a little over a week, but always consistent with what the firm told me.Anonymous User wrote:+1 to post-CB wait being excruciating.

It really depends on the firm, but personally every interview offer has been for a full fledged callback.Anonymous User wrote:Are most of these CB's coming after screeners, or is it straight to CB? Anyone have secondary market CBs? Interested to see if the offer rate is similar to major markets this early on...

Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
Just want to warn folks that based on what I know about my firm (and I have pretty good intel on this), at least one person in this thread is lying about where they have a CB or offer. Based on my memory of OCI, that's unfortunately and entirely common - folks would bullshit each other all the time to make themselves look good or to get in their 'competitors' heads.
In other words, take this info in this thread (and otherwise) with a big, hypertension-inducing grain of salt.

My pre-OCI interviews are 2 CB's and 2 Screeners. All in Midwest secondaries.

Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
Anyone else's school not allow Pre-OCI CBs? Got a CB earlier this year from a firm coming to OCI in a few weeks. However, they told me that my school was not allowing them to interview students for CBs until after the firm conducted all of their interviews at OCI...

Re: 2015 Pre-OCI Interviews
why would people bullshit anonymously on a non-school specific thread? thats stupid.Anonymous User wrote:Just want to warn folks that based on what I know about my firm (and I have pretty good intel on this), at least one person in this thread is lying about where they have a CB or offer.
