3L here.

My impression from last year was that people getting pulled off an "alternate" list was unicorn-ish. If they want you, you'll get a callback. Firms don't have school-floors. They don't NEED x # of UVAs. I would assume the only firms that dip into an "alternate" list (to the extent they even exist) are ones that strike out across many schools and come up a good deal short of the class size they wanted.

Interesting. I've talked to a few people at firms in my home market who do the recruiting and they mentioned having an "A" list, a "B" list, and so on. They definitely said that they don't have a "quota" outside of certain people at the firm liking to recruit from their alma mater... They're really just looking for good talent (i.e. grades) and fit, so they just go down the list, see who would be willing to come back for a CB and then move on down.

I don't think that this is the case at most or even any of the firms at OGI. These outfits were looking to take 3-4 SAs and really wanted to make sure they'll commit. I imagine that the larger offices give a ton of CBs from the on campus boondoggles and just want to get the ball rolling ASAP because they need 20+ SAs and they'll be spending weeks hosting a bunch of 2Ls.

What does it mean that I haven't gotten a ding from someone who has sent out dings already, but also haven't gotten a CB?

FWIW OCS flat out told me that CBs go out in waves for a lot of firms, so no news can actually be good news.

Depressed. Above the median, no cb so far and nothing from mass mailing. Even though I'm paying less than half of the tuition, but still.

Anyone hear from Choate? They usually do CBs within 24 hours and usually call the same day, but I know the interviewer had a drive+late flight after the interview yesterday so it might be slightly delayed.

I'm definitely getting a little nervous. Haven't heard back from a lot of firms and most of my interviews this week were earlier in the week.

The good news is a lot of my firms are not on the list in the OP of this thread. I wonder how representative this thread is? Idk, anyone else nervous?

I think everyone is nervous.

I'm in the same boat as you. A lot of early interviews, but a lot of radio silence. I even know of people with CBs from offices that haven't dinged me yet, so I am on pins and needles. I'm hoping that CBs come in waves. IT actually makes sense that they do, because if they call back 250 people or however many they invite, the scheduling would be a huge mess. I know I'm not a shoe-in anywhere, but it gives me hope.

Yeah I forgot about waves but that makes sense. I know it's irrational but I was basically just looking for some hope so thank you for that lol.

Not to be depressing, but a lot of firms also use snail mail rejections. It's possible that they sent those out at the same time as CBs and they just haven't reached us yet.

But would they use a combination of email and snail mail rejections? Because if you see rejections have gone out for a firm that you interviewed with and you haven't gotten one, there could still be hope.
