Don't want to start a whole new topic -- but who is starting or knows someone who's starting at DANY this fall? I need to know what the starting salary is. NOT what's posted on the DANY website, but what's in the offer letter.

I know quite a few. It's the same as what's posted on the website, $60,000 (they are all entry-level attorneys, not laterals who clerked or worked elsewhere before).Anonymous User wrote:Don't want to start a whole new topic -- but who is starting or knows someone who's starting at DANY this fall? Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
Also, on the subject of salaries, what is Brooklyn's starting salary and/or salary bump post-admission to the bar (the website changes every other second, so I haven't been able to track it down). What I've got so far is:
Manhattan - $60,000 starting/$60,500 when admitted
Queens - $59,500 starting/$60,000 when admitted
Bronx - $56,500 starting/$58,500 when admitted (biggest bump post-admission)
Brooklyn - ummmm...
ETA: well, the Bronx applicant website says starting salary is $55,500, while the application you have to fill out says $56,500...anyone know the answer to that?

Can anyone share some info about applying to DA offices outside of these main ones? Do many hire people right out of law school? I haven't been able to find out a lot of information but for example it looks like in NJ they will not hire anyone until they've passed the bar? Please correct me if I'm wrong and share any info about applying outside of the biggies!

I've been following this forum for a couple years now for DA/PD, and it appears its the same few offices that do pre-bar hiring. The list can be found on the first post of this topic: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... orney+2014Anonymous User wrote:Can anyone share some info about applying to DA offices outside of these main ones? Source (for both Queens and Manhattan)? E.g. someone in the office, internet rumor, etc.? What I've heard from people in Manhattan is that they're hiring a larger class than they did last year.Anonymous User wrote:heard 65K for Manhattan for the next class (rising 3Ls now) but not 100% sure on that.Anonymous User wrote:I heard a rumor that Manhattan DA got bumped up than what's listed on the website.. by the thousands..

First-hand knowledge for Queens, friend of a friend for Manhattan.

Thanks but that's exactly what I am not asking. I am hoping someone can share their experience of applying at smaller counties that do not have these defined application processes.encore1101 wrote:I've been following this forum for a couple years now for DA/PD, and it appears its the same few offices that do pre-bar hiring. Most other counties require you to pass the bar before they will hire you. As far as "general TLS knowledge" goes, those offices listed are the ones that have consistently hired prior to passing the bar. If other offices do pre-bar hiring, then it hasn't been really talked about much on TLS. Maybe someone will speak up to the contrary, though.
So in answer to two of your questions (which was found in my first response to you), most do not hire straight out of law school. NJ will not hire anyone that has not been admitted.

NJ won't look at you for prosecution until you're clerking for a year.

That said, the applications just opened for the NYC DA's offices (for the most part), and so far have Manhattan and Brooklyn in. Working on Queens and the Bronx (is anyone else having trouble filling out the Bronx paper application on their computer? I think I may just have to handwrite it...UGH).
the OCI sessions are open for all the offices for you? i was only able to apply to queens/bronx via oci so far, need to wait a week for brooklyn and Im applying online for manhattan b/c im interning there (per their request).
anyway as for the Bronx app, you need to hand write it then scan it into the computer to upload. We were advised at my school we could add an attachment for the "statement of interest" section tho.

Re: District Attorney's Offices 2015
I feel like all the websites are not updated so i wouldnt count on the salaries being what they say. As for the Bronx County the amount you have listed is wrong. If you go to the Bronx website and look at their "employment application" the last page states that starting salary for 2015 class will be 58 and change before admission and 60.5 after admissionAnonymous User wrote:Also, on the subject of salaries, what is Brooklyn's starting salary and/or salary bump post-admission to the bar (the website changes every other second, so I haven't been able to track it down). No, not through OCI. Applied online to Manhattan for the same reason you listed. I believe all the websites say they begin accepting applications in "August," so the season has begun.Anonymous User wrote:the OCI sessions are open for all the offices for you? i was only able to apply to queens/bronx via oci so far, need to wait a week for brooklyn and Im applying online for manhattan b/c im interning there (per their request).

Oh, I might do that for the statement of interest. It's the only section I have left and handwriting the whole thing would suck.

are you a summer intern there? I will be interning there in the Fall... do the interviewers give less weight to the fact that i interned in the fall instead of summer?

It's still 40K. My office is a fucking joke when it comes to salaries. The progression goes
34K-Prebar
40K- Upon bar passage and sworn in
41K- Juvenile
43K- C level (3rd degree felonies) (also known as the worst spot in the office)
45K- B Level (2nd Degree felonies)
47K- A level (1st degree felonies)
The numbers might be a little off, there was a random 1K raises given to people last year who had been working there at least a year, but I assure you the vast majority of the people in this office make under 50K. Most people hit B status by the end of their 3rd year at the latest.

Yes, summer. I don't know, but I've certainly heard from ADA's that the summer program is a lot more competitive than fall (harder to get into). That said, I know people who did clinics/externships during the fall/spring who seemed to do okay during interviews.Anonymous User wrote:are you a summer intern there? And for even more lulz, when you hit C status, your caseload is over 200+ cases. You're not quite at big law hours, but an 8-8 day + a day on the weekend is pretty close to the norm.

Yeah its crazy and its 40k in the city that is basically a playground for the rich... very few opportunities to break out of that pay structure as well

When you say clerking, do you mean judicial or clerking for the office you're applying to? And if it is for their office - is that something I should be applying for now? Any other info on getting a job with one of these offices would be greatly appreciated!!Anonymous User wrote:NJ won't look at you for prosecution until you're clerking for a year.Anonymous User wrote:Can anyone share some info about applying to DA offices outside of these main ones?
