Curious about this as well, especially any insight for transactional.Anonymous User wrote:Faegre or Dorsey? Which would you chose and why?
Also, does anyone remember how Faegre assigns summer work? Are they on a rotation system like Dorsey?

Pretty sure I'm taking Dorsey.
Interestingly, I didn't get a callback at Faegre, but was offered a spot at Robins without even doing a CB.

Faegre uses a rotation system. Prior to the summer associate program, the recruiting staff will ask you to rank your practice groups preferences and you will subsequently be assigned to three practice groups (last summer, your top preference was your 4-week rotation, and then you had two 3-week rotations in your 2nd and 3rd preference practice groups).Anonymous User wrote:Curious about this as well, especially any insight for transactional.Anonymous User wrote:Faegre or Dorsey? Just got a massmail contact from Dorsey - told them i would still be down for a callback. I'm thinking this is good, but it is so late in the process...

Faegre. Fredrikson is not even close. Even the attorneys there admit that they are are second tier to Faegre.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Faegre or Fredrikson? Which to choose and why?
Not to mention Fredrikson's financials are pretty worrisome after they settled the Petters pozni scheme case for $14M.

1) prestige, revenues, or even sophistication of work aren't the sole factors people should weigh. Things such as culture and work-life balance count too, and both these things would pull me toward Fredrikson and away from Fargre.Anonymous User wrote:Faegre. Fredrikson is not even close. 2) the Petters settlement was covered by an insurance policy.
3) no, I don't work at Fredrikson nor do I aspire to (I'm happily employed elsewhere).

Absolutely agree that prestige/financial stability/interesting work shouldn't be the only factor, but they should definitely play a part. On all these levels, Faegre dominates Fredrikson. Faegre does major work for Target, Cargill, Ameriprise--all the biggest players in Minneapolis. Fredrikson doesn't really do anything on that level (some minor in-house work for Medtronic). And the Petters settlement was covered by insurance, but that $14M had an undisclosed copay, which one can safely assume was very substantial.Anonymous User wrote:1) prestige, revenues, or even sophistication of work aren't the sole factors people should weigh. Re: Minneapolis Legal Market
I summered at Fredrikson. I wouldn't recommend it for people interested in general transactional work because the corporate associates are all really struggling to bill enough hours. Midlevels were doing diligence for really minor deals just to have something to show for themselves each month. The firm hasn't handled an IPO in almost a decade, and they're really struggling to find deal work.Anonymous User wrote:Curious about this as well, especially any insight for transactional.Anonymous User wrote:Faegre or Dorsey? I wouldn't recommend it for general commercial litigation work since that's really not the firm's forte. There was definitely some grumbling from litigation associates who felt like they could have gotten better work or more respect elsewhere.
That said, the firm has an outstanding private equity group and a solid health group. Their business and tax group is great too if you like tax but don't want to do only tax your whole life.
I would agree that the firm does seem to have a bit of an inferiority complex whenever Dorsey or Faegre are brought up.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
