Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
Did anyone have success securing an interview with McCarter & English? I wrote the recruiter twice, got in touch with some associates to learn more, kept expressing my interest, etc. But it seems like it was to no avail. Are they even running a summer program?

I would say call and ask for an extension.Anonymous User wrote:I really don't know what I'm supposed to do about Lowenstein right now. The offer expires next Friday, yet I just started my OCI callbacks this past week. They go all throughout September. I have about 10 vault firm interviews either coming up or pending a decision. Am I honestly supposed to just accept this Lowenstein offer out of anxiety that none of the Vault firm interviews will yield offers? The thing is, I really liked Lowenstein and would seriously consider them given my love for NJ and the extent to which I enjoyed my visit. But I barely have any basis for comparison at this point, as I have just started visiting other firms. What would you guys suggest? Just calling and asking for a deadline extension?

As far as I know, they haven't re-started their summer program and they haven't had one at all for the last two years. I think the only way to get into McCarter & English now is post-clerkship or as a lateral. I wouldn't waste my time on them right now.Anonymous User wrote:Did anyone have success securing an interview with McCarter & English? You should really take the two minutes to read a firm's NALP profile before exerting that much time and effort into them. They don't take summers and haven't for a while, a glance at the profile would have told you that.Anonymous User wrote:Did anyone have success securing an interview with McCarter & English? Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
They were scheduled to come to my school's OCI but cancelled and said they would contact applicants they were interested in directly. So seems like they are restarting their summer program?Anonymous User wrote:You should really take the two minutes to read a firm's NALP profile before exerting that much time and effort into them. Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
The people I spoke with, including the recruiter at one point, said they are considering re-starting the program, and that they would perhaps consider people on a case-by-case basis. So its not like I had no clue what their recruiting situation was and expended energy on nothing.Anonymous User wrote:You should really take the two minutes to read a firm's NALP profile before exerting that much time and effort into them. It is a little unclear whats going on at M&E. For a while they dropped the summer program. At one of the NJ schools they were coming to campus. That turned into a resume collect.Anonymous User wrote:The people I spoke with, including the recruiter at one point, said they are considering re-starting the program, and that they would perhaps consider people on a case-by-case basis. So, NALP was a little misleading there. But then again, who knows what is going on.

Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
Apparently they were supposed to go to Cornell, but I don't know if they hired or called back anyone. I still say Lowenstein is the better firm... and they've kept a solid size summer program (for NJ at least) all through ITE. And I'm not just saying that because it was pretty much my "dream firm" when I first applied to law school, and now that they're actually interviewing meAnonymous User wrote:It is a little unclear whats going on at M&E. Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
If someone at the firm told you something different than what's on the firm profile then by all means go with that. The post that I responded to said nothing about someone at the firm saying the program was coming back just that you were contacting all these people at the firm and were clueless as to why you were getting no response.Anonymous User wrote:The people I spoke with, including the recruiter at one point, said they are considering re-starting the program, and that they would perhaps consider people on a case-by-case basis. I have a Bressler CB coming up, but it was through mass mailing, not OCI (NJ school to MVP transfer).Anonymous User wrote:I have heard nothing but I know someone who got a CB. A few updates regarding the NJ front:
-Porzio emailed to say they finished the CB process and will be making decisions "over the next several weeks". By the sounds of that, I won't hear from them until after I've already made a decision
-Offer from Proskauer Newark
-Got a deadline extension on my offer with Lowenstein. I am definitely considering this offer and appreciated that they were willing to give me a bit of flexibility
-Invited to CB at Day Pitney after phone screener
-Still waiting on CB decisions from Sills and Patton Boggs Newark
-Have CB coming up with Bressler
-Screener request from Norris McLaughlin but turned it down since I think I have enough options on the table

^ seriously. Interview request from mass mail (not sure if in-office screener or callback, probably the former) from Greenbaum today. Probably going to decline on account of I already have an offer. It's kinda late for this!

Re: Anyone Heard From NJ Firms?
I kind of had a feeling they were going to be slow when Cole Schotz, Bressler and Lowenstein didn't seem to think anything of scheduling me at the end of September (and McElroy Deutsch didn't notify me until Friday). I'm guessing they callback a ton of people who they know are using NJ as a backup market and are generally waiting for some people to withdraw before making offers/rejections. Especially since some of the classes are smaller than others (I'm pretty sure in NJ only Lowenstein, Bressler and McElroy Deutsch take double-digit SA's).Anonymous User wrote:distraught at how slow the NJ market is.
As for Greenbaum, I know they were scheduled for a mid-September OCI at one of the NJ schools, so that may be why they are doing CB's/CB-style screeners so late.

are you the same person who posted about your Proskauer Newark offer in the "Proskauer" thread? Getting nervous :/ (though my interview was not until Wednesday, 9/14). also- congrats!Anonymous User wrote:A few updates regarding the NJ front:

FYI, Cole Schotz is scheduling callbacks well into October. Anyone out there get an offer from them yet?

Yeah, I posted it in the Proskauer thread. I think one other guy in the thread was chatting with me that he had an offer as well. Given they expect 4 people for next summer, I have no clue how many of the 30 something people they make offers to in order to get a yield of 4. My call was on Thursday afternoon, and said they waited until the Wednesday interviews were complete before making any calls. Though, if people turn them down, more will obviously be coming
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
