Transfer student with no science background and am interested in IP. Only got 3 preselects at OCI and 1 alternate. Feeling helpless right about now.

Why IP if no science background? Do you have patent paralegal experience or anything else that would convey to a firm that you'll be able to hold your own in that field?

Well I majored in chemistry in undergrad but that's about it. I want to go into IP litigation not necessarily hard IP.

Nothing interesting to report here, pretty typical interviews so far.

what's up with the symplicity info about the firms walk-in policy? has anyone done this? has it worked? what about someone that didn't get preselected ...would it be awkward? not sure if it works or if people have tried it

I saw this twice today, once successful, once not:

(1) I had an interview immediately after the 10 minute morning break with a firm that was accepting walk-ins. Three people were lined up in the hallway waiting to give their resumes to the interviewer. There was an open interview slot later in the day, and before my interview started, the interviewer accepted the resume of the first girl in line and wrote her name into the schedule on the door. So, success for her!

(2) While waiting for an interview I saw a guy down the hall knock on a door, and when the interviewer opened up, the guy said "Hi, I'm an alternate and I wanted to drop my resume off in case you had a chance to interview me today." The interviewer stared at him, clearly uninterested / annoyed, and said "I think our schedule is full today but I'll pass it along to the firm" and took the resume as if he had just been handed a bag of dog crap. So, a slightly embarassing failure for him.

Moral of the story: if you're okay with the strong likelihood of an interviewer telling you to screw off, and at best having a screener with practically guaranteed auto-ding, then go for it.

I was wondering about the walk in policy as well. I called OCI and they suggested not trying to do a walk in for a firm that you alreadly bid on if they didn't preselect you. My question is when do you stop by? At the beginning of the day, during breaks? And how do you know when the breaks are, other than showing up every morning and checking out their schedule? And do you just stop by the GW hospitality suite, or do you go up to the specific rooms?

I think the CDO's response is a little off. When a firm only has 20'ish interview slots it they are likely turning down many qualified candidates. In the case the interviewer has the time to talk to a 21st person, I don't see why it matters that you were not selected previously, especially if you already know a lot about the firm. You might just be the one they were looking for.

I got a CB last night from a large California office of a firm that interviewed on Tuesday. I think (a.k.a. hope) that today's the day we will start hearing back from the majority of Tuesday's firms, since its 2 days after interviewing began.

I got a CB last night from a large California office of a firm that interviewed on Tuesday. I think (a.k.a. hope) that today's the day we will start hearing back from the majority of Tuesday's firms, since its 2 days after interviewing began.

Another callback today from the D.C. office of a major Philadelphia firm that interviewed yesterday. Still silent on most places, though. Also hoping tomorrow is better.
