So in light of worsening employment prospects, even at UVA, do you guys think attending at sticker is a bad idea?

There's been no indication of worsening career prospects. People are going off the deep end in the legal employment forum.

I have yet to see anything that indicates c/o 2013 has it any worse than '12, '11 or '10.

From what I read on the UVA site, there is no reason to super-size the panic button.

Hard to say if the outcome of this poll is good news or not. 36% earning over $100K, I would think is encouraging but not great. 35% earning $100K or less, with the emphasis on $70K and less. . . .how good is that? Since people say that for every 45 grads, there are only 30 jobs, then the 28% still looking is better than expected.

I looked at several threads today and applicants are receiving plenty of callbacks and offers. Even the law-school-recruiter declared that he was swamped. Other than the poll only has a small sample, what part is meaningless?

The better question is 'what part of this poll is significant?'.

You answered your own question in your post. Furthermore - some applicants are receiving plenty of callbacks and offers, but TLS doesn't have a representative amount of students in Tier 2, T3, and T4 schools, or students with poor grades. These students tend not to post as often for obvious reasons.

Let’s go with your rationale. Because this is TLS, more T-14 students are represented. So lets remove these 21 Grads that indicated that they have landed $160K Big Law positions. Remove them completely from the equation. Gone.

This leaves 56 grads. 37.5% are still looking, and 37.5% are paid $70K, or less. In other words, 75% are being paid $70K or less, or, are still looking.

The other 25% have jobs that average $110K.

Does this works for you? Or is this still too optimistic??

Removing 21 grads indicating 160k jobs does absolutely nothing to account for t14 students. I literally have no idea how even thought that would work.

I have been down this path. You must subscribe to the notion that the only opportunities available these days are for Baristas, anything else is regarded as too optimistic.

Instead of dismissing the $160K category, I think it would be preferable to disregard the “still looking” category. This way you can get an indication of the average salary, which is approximately $113K . Approximately because the $70K or less category is calculated at $70K, and as some posters noted, many earn under $50K. A likely average outcome is probably closer to $100K.

Another way to view it, 63% of those polled earn over $70K and 37% earn under. No idea if that is a true indicator of the real world. Perhaps.

There are numerous Real Worlds out there. T-14 grads with top grades and those with lessor grades. Ditto, grades from Tier 1, 2 and 3. Hard to decipher the real world, given all the moving parts.

Crazy as it is, they tell me it's dependent upon more than grades - prior WE and personality plays a pretty big role, too. As a straight-through, I'm a little better than top 20% at my t14 and I'm still shitting bricks.

Of course personality matters. But I would hazard that K-JD's make up the majority of the T14.

No. K-JD is about a quarter of NYU (27% of the class of 2013 according to school statistics). I doubt it's different anywhere else in the T14 but Northwestern (where there are zero K-JDs).
