Hopefully high, I have heard rumors of a couple of hiring committees meeting last week. Hope tomorrow brings some news...

Re: Any Boston offers?
I don't really know, though. This is only anecdotal, but the two people I know at school doing really well with Boston firms have virtually no strong ties (one spent a summer there and another has no connection, as far as I know). They have really high grades though.rcb5142 wrote:I think this is right. Boston biglaw recruits heavily from Boston schools, and then fills the rest with T14 students w. Boston ties. Of course this isn't a hard and fast "rule", but it is mostly true.Anonymous User wrote:Perhaps, but if you look at the summer associates from a big Boston firm last summer (one of WH/Ropes/GP), if the summer associate didn't attend school in Boston or New England generally, then they were from New England (MA, CT, RI, NH).Anonymous User wrote: Personally, I don't think the "Boston connection" really means much, at least in this economy. A lot of people I know from my school who got Boston callbacks were not from Boston, and I had as good a shot as anyone with a "Boston connection" at Goodwin (interviewer went to my undergrad and law school, all we talked about at the interview was my undergrad, etc.). It's tough out there.
Being from Boston won't get you there automatically, but they seem to favor those who know the area/would be likely to stay long term.

Re: Any Boston offers?
To respond to the "must have strong Boston ties to get a summer offer" assertion, I think you are mistaken about the weight of the factor. Basically, it seems that if you can demonstrate any reasonable connection to Boston, you will not be discounted as a candidate. But you get no bonus for having a "stronger" connection than some other candidate (i.e. having been born and raised there gives you no 'bonus' over someone who just has a good reason to move there, like having gone to undergrad there and can sell that you love the city).
In terms of weekend dings/CBs, Brown Rudnick offer and still waiting from another firm.

If it makes anyone feel better I am in the top of my class and on law review and haven't heard back, ya know, so the take away from this is people think I am an asshole, because I definitely look ok on paper.

It's still too early for a ton of offers to have gone out. I'd guess that less than half of all offers have been made.Anonymous User wrote:Ha I suppose, or the people getting offers aren't wasting their time on here like we are.Anonymous User wrote:I feel better that tons of offers have not gone out yet.
