I'm not going to be baited into a further argument with you of all people, not least because I think you're generally one of the most useful posters around here. If you want to continue this discussion, we should probably take it to pms.NYAssociate wrote:That may be. I guess I'm just hoping you don't talk like you type.dresden doll wrote:You imagined it? what inside your soul makes you to write something like this? did you never live up to your father's expectations, or did mommy yell at you too much when you were 12?Don't you go to Hastings? Where were you billing these hours, the city attorney's?

Usually the problem is that mommy didn't yell enough in such cases.Stringer6 wrote:what inside your soul makes you to write something like this? did you never live up to your father's expectations, or did mommy yell at you too much when you were 12?Don't you go to Hastings? So you are going to put down on your resume that you are willing to work really hard? It's like putting down that you have a pulse. It's a common understanding at the resume review process stage that all candidates will work hard.

I'm going to put on my resume that I showed up for work on time every day at my last job, and only showed up drunk once or twice.

Actaully that puts you in the class of about 1% of all law students.General Tso wrote:who me? nopePKSebben wrote:So you are going to put down on your resume that you are willing to work really hard? Where your going to school ypou can show up drunk to the interview, call the managing female partner honey and shoot finger guns at her with a wink on your way out and still get an offer.vanwinkle wrote:I'm going to put on my resume that I showed up for work on time every day at my last job, and only showed up drunk once or twice.

Re: Include 1L summer billing total in OCI resume?
Um, that's a pretty legitimate question. I go to a school which ranked only 14 spots above UCH (i.e. a peer school) and very, very few people got good firm jobs after 1L. It too was wondering what kind of firm OP is working at; talking up your billables when you're shuffling papers at a 4-person insurance defense shop in Daly City doesn't really seem like an overwhelmingly necessary thing to do.Stringer6 wrote:what inside your soul makes you to write something like this? did you never live up to your father's expectations, or did mommy yell at you too much when you were 12?Don't you go to Hastings? I read "Guerilla Tactics" only to realize at the end that the author hales from a TTT. Disappointed, I threw it in the trash, knowing that the information contained within must be worthless.
OT: Try to include some type of penis measurement on your resume as well, that will let them know what type of confidence you bring to the table.

I sincerely hope you are trying to be ironic. Your penis size should be pretty high on your resume, but just below that pearl of a law school you surely attend.rynabrius wrote:I read "Guerilla Tactics" only to realize at the end that the author hales from a TTT. Can someone spoil Guerilla Tactics for me so I don't have to buy/read it? Other than "get good grades, go to a good law school, send out resumes, write good cover letters," I'm really not sure what kind of helpful and apposite information the book could contain.

It actually doesn't talk about grades or law school much; it's largely a book designed to get jobs in spite of those two factors. It focuses on sort of the theory of selling yourself, the things to think about, the manner to approach the job hunt. It is quite wordy, and hard to distill into digestible chunks. It's the kind of book you read and think "this is all common sense" but if will (hopefully) focus your common sense into a productive and overt channel.

Re: Include 1L summer billing total in OCI resume?
Just to reiterate for 0Ls who may be reading this thread- just because your boss asks you to bill something, doesn't mean that you are making money for the firm. SAs are asked to bill so that they get experience keeping track of their time. Time entry is an unattractive part of being a private attorney and most people are not used to it. More often than not, an SA's time will be written off by the firm (even for rising 3Ls). Also, even if that wasn't the case, it would remain a poor idea. The total # of hours billed tells you nothing about the quality of work product or the efficiency with which you worked. Most firms recognize that they will lose money on a junior attorney the first few years as we are horribly inefficient compared to seasoned attorney. OP may be remarkably good at what he does but I think this is a bad idea for most people in most situations.

so you, like the poster I commented on, should ask the OP "where do you work?"Um, that's a pretty legitimate question. I go to a school which ranked only 14 spots above UCH (i.e. a peer school) and very, very few people got good firm jobs after 1L. It too was wondering what kind of firm OP is working at; talking up your billables when you're shuffling papers at a 4-person insurance defense shop in Daly City doesn't really seem like an overwhelmingly necessary thing to do.
you know, politely, like normal people.

Re: Include 1L summer billing total in OCI resume?
pretty much. If someone did not get a summer SA 1L or god forbid 2L then the book is proabaly going to help them. Its pretty much common sense, but that seems to be lacking in most law students. its basiclly what your CSO would tell you if people actually listened to them and not thier classmates on advice how to land a job.disco_barred wrote:*drools over the word apposite again*SoftBoiledLife wrote:Can someone spoil Guerilla Tactics for me so I don't have to buy/read it?
