This is one of the most egregious things I've read in a while. NYU is not at any disadvantage relative to these schools because they have a later EIW. There is no evidence to suggest that timing even matters at all. There was also no reason to post this anonymously, and hopefully the mods will fix that.Anonymous User wrote:Out of T14, the only schools who have EIW after NYU is Stanford Yale and Chicago. You can check Wachtell's website for the EIW schedule of most of the schools. It probably is a huge disadvantage since UPenn, Duke, Berkeley, UVA, etc.. have already gotten offers and began filling up summer associate spots. I assume each law firm has a limited number of spots

What about smaller firms with only a few slots for their summer program? I assume a program like that doesn't have slots set aside for NYU students.

Generally such firms don't move fast on callbacks or offers anyway. When I interviewed with boutiques at EIW a few years ago, I got most of my callbacks in mid-September, did most of them in early-mid October and got offers in November. It's just a completely different timeline.

I've done two CBs without any offers yet, starting to doubt my own interview skills. Clearly I can make it through the 20 minute screeners because I got a solid number of CBs back (and my grades are shit). Hardest part is if the interviewer is quite formal so it doesn't feel like a conversation - he/she asks for questions at the end. I feel like I never ask really good questions.

In the same boat as you. Done 2 CBs so far without any offers and starting to feel like I won't be able to convert any of them.Anonymous User wrote:I've done two CBs without any offers yet, starting to doubt my own interview skills. What a cheerful lot, we are. I know some people have been receiving offers the same day or next day after their CB, but many firms also do not provide a response for at least a week, sometimes two weeks. The two firms I've had CBs with last week both told me that the average time to find out re: offers is 1-2 weeks post-CB.

Yea, but it's discouraging when other people who've had CBs the same day or after you as with the same firm, have already gotten offers from the firm.

Don't mean to sound negative but when firms say that they'll get back to you within 2 weeks they don't mean waiting till day 10 to give you an offer...they mean that either way you'll hear from them within 2 weeks. Truth is if they want you they give you an offer as soon as they can before you have a chance to accept an offer from some other firm; if they aren't sure, though, it's possible that they put you on the wait list from a few days. But once you are on the wait list, it's stopped being about you and anything that might happen from that point onward is sheer luck. This doesn't mean one should entirely lose hope but I also am not a big fan of blind optimism. I myself is in the same boat here as other anxious souls...while I should begin reading for classes, I check my phone every hour and can't get ANYTHING done!!! But still, deep down I know I need to accept the truth... instead of hanging desperately onto the slim chance that they might still call and give me an offer after a week of silence, I should really focus on my upcoming callbacks.

This is probably true for a number of firms.Anonymous User wrote:Don't mean to sound negative but when firms say that they'll get back to you within 2 weeks they don't mean waiting till day 10 to give you an offer...they mean that either way you'll hear from them within 2 weeks. But every firm is different and is going to approach the offer game differently. For all of my callbacks, a hiring committee is definitely going to have to meet before extending an offer. That could take a little while

So, at callbacks at big firms, are we competing mostly against students at our own school as opposed to all applicants as a whole (if the firm has reserved x spots for each school?)

I also have 2 CB's without an offer yet. I wouldn't read too much into it. If you had a CB with some firm last week, that means you likely had a CB with that firm earlier than most other NYU candidates to have CB with that firm. That means, unless you are 100% shoe-in for that firm (like top 5% grades with some diversity factor), the firm probably wants to wait until it sees, say, more than half of the NYU candidates.
Think about it. Of course I'd assume most NYU students with some CB's to have had at least one CB last week, but I'd also assume most of their CB's happen either this week or next week. Overall, most NYU CB's at any given firm are likely to happen this week or even next week.

I have a CB this afternoon and just now realizing I would most likely never accept the offer at this firm, is it bad etiquette to cancel this late or is it worse etiquette to go on the cb with no real intention of ever accepting? As of now I will be going on the cb to play it safe...

Stop being reasonable! Don't you know that EIW is for self-loathing and dark fatalism?Anonymous User wrote:I also have 2 CB's without an offer yet. I wouldn't read too much into it. Don't waste their time. It's not bad etiquette. They understand things happen and people get last minute offers. I'm waiting to hear back from a firm, but if I get an offer there, I will be canceling all the other call backs I have this week.
