Same poster from above (Top 10, Secondary J). I thought I should add, in the interest of full disclosure and at the risk of outing myself a little, I have geographical connections to the secondary market/chicago firms.
Also, regarding being chosen for screener based on resume: I will say that two of the three DC callbacks I got were based off interviews I did not get through the lottery. Those firms (both V20) seemed to care a little less that I wasn't on main journal. Anyway, maybe that provides some insight into the difficulty of getting DC CBs; i.e., maybe a lot of them went to people on ghost schedules.

Had the opposite experience. I was on 4 or 5 DC ghost schedules and got a CB from none of them. Got one CB from an NY ghost schedule.Anonymous User wrote:Same poster from above (Top 10, Secondary J). I understand why it can be "almost depressing." Law school is about haves and have-nots - and this fact is based entirely on numbers. The vast differences in outcomes between those who are top 15% and those who are, say, only top 33% is certainly a bit depressing given that it's based on finest of distinctions - and I say this coming from the happy side of that distinction.terribleperson wrote:What exactly is depressing? Were you hoping only people lower in the class than you would post? If so, then you were not coming to TLS for information, because the experience of people lower in the class would have less relevance to you than the experience of your GPA peers, but instead you were coming to boost your ego.Anonymous User wrote:in a way, this is turning into something almost depressing. i guess when we go to school with 600 people, there's still plentyof people in the top 15%
85% struggle/scramble/stress while 15% gloat/coast through the rest of law school. You have to admit that's a bit depressing.

Maybe you're understanding his post better than I am, but I read it as saying that what's depressing is that "there's still plentyof people in the top 15%." Therefore, people outside the top 15% having a tough time isn't what he's complaining about, but rather that he thought he was more exceptional than he really is.nycdweller wrote:I understand why it can be "almost depressing." Re: Georgetown 2011 OCI Thread
To the poster who got dinged from W&C on a ghost schedule, when/how did that ding occur? Not to be morbid, but I ask because I interviewed there on Tuesday and haven't heard anything either way - though I doubt I can draw anything from that because I interviewed, as a 3L, for a permanent position, and certain things the interviewer said indicated the 3L timetable was far more elongated, esp. if you're applying for clerkships and they don't know what year they'll be getting you.

Top third, secondary journal, no WE. 1/12 on CBs from EIW and still waiting to hear from 2/3 firms I interviewed with back home over the summer.
This process is really frustrating. Apparently I don't interview well, which makes me really nervous for the one CB.

Also (this isn't really related to callbacks, but just wondering), why the hell does GULC do top 10%, top 15%, and top third? What's the usefulness of the 10/15 distinction instead of, for instance, top 10/20? Isn't the 10/15 distinction, like, 0.04 in GPA?

Re: Georgetown 2011 OCI Thread
At the risk of adding on to the 15/85 distinction, I imagine that GULC does top 15% instead of top 20% in order to protect the employability of the students with the top grades. Top 15 sounds better than Top 20, and having it fall off from top 15 to top third ensures that the top 15 look significantly more attractive than the next highest cohort (which includes an additional one hundred or so students). And, of course GULC does individual rankings for the students at the very top, which further bolsters their desirability.
That's just a guess I'm floating out there, based on the belief that it wouldn't be good for the school if the top 15% were not highly likely to be employed.

Actually, though GULC doesn't tell all their students this, they tell everyone inside the top 10% what their precise percentile is. Which is how I know I'm top 1%.

I wondered how people knew they were top 7% or whatever. That makes a lot of sense.traydeuce wrote:Actually, though GULC doesn't tell all their students this, they tell everyone inside the top 10% what their precise percentile is. Which is how I know I'm top 1%.

Are the majority of people who post here top 10%? This is depressing.
I'm somewhere in the middle. 5 callbacks, 2 rejections, waiting on a whole bunch of firms no one seems to have heard from. The 2 rejections were from firms with median GPAs well below mine, which is curious.

In late July, they sent e-mails and subsequently sent letters by mail. I think the letter by mail was dated 7/27. Now, I'm a 3L, but I know 2Ls who got the same sort of letters at the same time.Anonymous User wrote:What? when and how do they do this? False, it goes top third, top 15, top 10, then 5 4 3 2 1.traydeuce wrote:Actually, though GULC doesn't tell all their students this, they tell everyone inside the top 10% what their precise percentile is. Which is how I know I'm top 1%.

Is just about median okay? Secondary Journal. 0 CBs, 7 rejections, still waiting to hear from about half, which I guess means more rejections. I'm surprised and so was my career adviser, especially since I think the interviews went extremely well. Tough couple of weeks.Anonymous User wrote:Can we get some below-median lurkers to post?

No one I know median or below - myself included - has a single callback, FWIW. It makes sense that most people who post here are top 33% or better - they have actual info to share, actual callbacks to commiserate about

Just shy of Top 15%, secondary journal, some WE
6 CBs all V50ish firms; still waiting to hear from Ropes and Sutherland (Does anyone have a CB with either?)

I see. That makes sense; you're probably better off doing the "I'm top 10, and who knows how high I may be within the top 10" than saying you're top 9%. Of course, if the firms get anyone in the top 5% they know you're somewhere in the 6th-10th.johndhi wrote:False, it goes top third, top 15, top 10, then 5 4 3 2 1.traydeuce wrote:Actually, though GULC doesn't tell all their students this, they tell everyone inside the top 10% what their precise percentile is. Top 33%, Secondary Journal, Barrister's Council: 14 screeners, 4 CBs, 3 rejections... waiting to hear one way or the other from the rest.
FWIW, I know a couple of people below median who have between 2-3 CBs. They each have significant work experience and are charming/friendly. They got some of their CBs late in the game, definitely after others had heard back. NY market.

Re: Georgetown 2011 OCI Thread
I feel like lack of WE might be fucking me over. Anyone have advice for that?
edit: I mean addressing it in the two callbacks I do have - obviously it's too late for screeners.
