Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
Can anyone speak to how likely lottery interviews are to be succesful in terms of landing callbacks. Speaking as someone who bid a very "safe" top 15 in terms of only bidding firms that had average GPAs near mine it would be very helpful.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I think the conventional wisdom is that you could always wow them in your screening interview, and if you're in the GPA range that's even more true, but that generally if someone doesn't pre-select you it's for a reason and your odds in that room are much, much lower than where you were pre-selected.Anonymous User wrote:Can anyone speak to how likely lottery interviews are to be succesful in terms of landing callbacks. what? if nyc is overbid then its overbid regardless. even with a lottery system you'll get less interviews if you bid an overbid market. it shouldn't change that much. you're not guaranteed x interviews.barry wrote:If ur school has a lottery system don't worry, it's just UVA has a preselect system so tons of interviews go to LR pplmths wrote:absolutelyAnonymous User wrote:Not at UVA student. My goodness. After this, I bet Donovan and OCS is just going to hold back entering any preselects/alternates in at all until everything is in since folks are so prone to overreacting. At least that way we would know whether things are bad or not.mths wrote:absolutelyAnonymous User wrote:Not at UVA student. This seems like a NYC bloodbath. Cornell did perfectly fine with NYC lottery - around the same as last OCI, maybe slightly higher when taking open slots into account.Anonymous User wrote:what? if nyc is overbid then its overbid regardless. even with a lottery system you'll get less interviews if you bid an overbid market. it shouldn't change that much. you're not guaranteed x interviews.barry wrote:If ur school has a lottery system don't worry, it's just UVA has a preselect system so tons of interviews go to LR pplmths wrote:absolutelyAnonymous User wrote:Not at UVA student. Lottery puts everyone on even footing so there is little chance that vast swaths of the class will be fucked unlike UVA hth

Right...equal footing per firm. But if NY firms average more bids per interview slot than DC you're gonna end up with less. You guys are also forgetting or overlooking the fact that UVA DOES have a lottery system, 30% of spots. Furthermore, the lottery system will be significantly more plentiful this year because of the 20 cap. Many people won't be participating in the lottery at all because of it.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
Non-UVA student here. At a school that uses a lottery system so could someone please explain to me whether receiving an alternate means you are an alternate to interview with that firm if someone drops out, or if that firm was an alternate on your list and you got an interview with them because you didn't receive all of your pre-selects. Thanks, and sorry for the ignorance.

The former. If a preselect declines to take the interview, it gets given to an alternate, chosen by the firm.Anonymous User wrote:Non-UVA student here.
