Who's this Funke everyone's talking about?ExpOriental wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 2:04 pmJust for the sake of discussion, what do you all think would happen if someone put out a fake raise memo that actually tricked other firms into matching? I know this would probably never work, I'm just curious.
Do you think they'd go back on the raise? Or do you think they'd just stick with it because of the bad optics of undoing a raise you already admitted you were willing to give?

SRZ matched DPW scale, summers also raised to $202.5k, effective July 1. Class of 2012 is $375k ($10k more than DPW?)

Re: NY to 200k?!
FWIW, people actually tried this last year when Reddit was tracking firms' responses to COVID for incoming first years and for summers, and ATL was sourcing stories from the forum. Other people at the firm always contradicted the fake info, and posters were mostly angry about being misled.ExpOriental wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 2:04 pmJust for the sake of discussion, what do you all think would happen if someone put out a fake raise memo that actually tricked other firms into matching? Most firms have 2013+ as the highest level on their scale. SRZ added 2012 as an additional level with $10k more than 2013.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 2:26 pmSRZ matched DPW scale, summers also raised to $202.5k, effective July 1. Class of 2012 is $375k ($10k more than DPW?)

Do we still think there's a chance of an increase or is the market somewhat settled? At this point is it more likely that a Cravath announcement doesn't come until next Monday?

Hard to believe that Cravath waits this long to simply match DPW.TigerIsBack wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 5:17 pmDo we still think there's a chance of an increase or is the market somewhat settled? At this point is it more likely that a Cravath announcement doesn't come until next Monday?
During the prior Salary Wars in 2018 (the move to $190k), Milbank moved first and Cravath came over the top exactly one week later: https://abovethelaw.com/2018/06/salary- ... ises-2018/

Cravath is not what it used to be. I’ll eat my words if they come over the top, but 99% chance they just meekly match 10 days later and it’s not even noteworthy anymore. Barely even a V10.

CravaTTTh. I hear their partners have the smallest dicks of all the NYC firms, and only a raise to $215k will convince me otherwise...Ultramar vistas wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 5:29 pmCravath is not what it used to be. What are you talking about.... their profits are up since they raised in 2018 (not to mention that it has only been 3 years). They also have a PPP of over 4.5m and RPL above 1.5m; affording to raise is no issue.Ultramar vistas wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 5:29 pmCravath is not what it used to be. S&C and CSM are not gonna go over the top lol - why would they? they're not gonna increase retention that much and they're already as attractive as they'll be to law students.

Why did CSM go over the top in 2018? Why did Milbank bother starting this instead of giving more bonuses? Why did DPW raise? The firms were always ultra attractive to law student; it is law, sometimes firms do things purely to show off. Honestly I will be surprised if CSM doesn't go over the top purely because they have always participated in raises.Anonymous User wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:36 pmS&C and CSM are not gonna go over the top lol - why would they? they're not gonna increase retention that much and they're already as attractive as they'll be to law students.

Re: NY to 200k?!
I’m talking about that fact that statistically speaking, Cravath partners are shorter, on average, than DPW partners, and their spouses are noticeably less attractive and virile than Milbank partners spouses. It’s obvious once you see it. I’ll be surprised if they’re in the V25 in 2023 if they continue to follow the market, and give up their leader position. Sad, really.Untitleddestiny wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:33 pmWhat are you talking about.... their profits are up since they raised in 2018 (not to mention that it has only been 3 years). How have firms like NRF matched but not CSM?

Re: NY to 200k?!
There are no Cravath (or STB, K&E, etc.) associates sweating whether they will get bumped up to the top of market, whatever that ends up being. Those firms would rather watch things play out for a little rather than throw their hat in the ring prematurely. Less obvious for NRF.
Once we get closer to July 1 though...

Does it matter at this point? No one in their right mind thinks it’s possible Cravath won’t at least match. The speed of the match announcement is irrelevant. So long as it’s in place by the 7/1 pay period.

Also, inb4 endless hysterics over firms that are clearly going to match taking a long time to announce.
inb4 people are still doing this ineffectual hand-wringing in 20 years

Cravath and S&C could be just waiting for Vault rankings to come out. If their rank goes down for some reason (like screwing over summer associates), maybe they will top it.

Dla match. Firm has turned into a real v30 lately (quick matches for special bonus and salary bump in 2021) after screwing its associates out of a piece of the “covid” bonuses for some reason in late 2020.
Molew to match this week.
