I definitely think applying early helps; they made a comment about the overwhelming number of resumes they continue to get and read through. But assuming you applied to the market your T20 is in, it sounds like you should have a decent chance if you interview well. As for my market, I don't want to out myself, but I'll say that it's a secondary market that I don't have ties to (but want to work in post law school)Anonymous User wrote:Awesome stats glad to hear it, I'm at a T20 with a slightly lower GPA and have only heard back from one, but I applied early-mid Jan so maybe the applying early thing really is the way to go. Mind sharing your market?Anonymous User wrote:Sure--I sent out apps on Dec. 1 and 2, I attend CCN, and my GPA is 3.67; I should add though that the hiring partner strongly suggested that it was much more about fit than it was about grades, even though great fit wouldn't overcome really bad gradesAnonymous User wrote:Congrats! Anyone have experience with the LCLD 1L Scholars program?

Thanks for the encouragement. Did you get any sense of the amount of CBs that go out for these positions? As in, once I get a CB, how many others am i realistically competing against?Anonymous User wrote:I definitely think applying early helps; they made a comment about the overwhelming number of resumes they continue to get and read through. I definitely think it depends on the firm. Some firms get less applications than others, and some give much fewer CBs (especially if you're in a pretty insular market). Something you should obviously keep in mind is that most of these firms are only going to hire one, maybe two, first years, so even if you aren't competing against many other candidates, there is still very little room for error. Do your research and kill the interview!Anonymous User wrote:Thanks for the encouragement. Did you get any sense of the amount of CBs that go out for these positions? What's the normal turn around time after sending grades? Already had CBs with the firms prior to grades. I'd just like to know if I'm still alive or if I've been dinged. It's been a little over a week since grades were sent.

Any news from anyone who phone interviewed with SDNY within the past few weeks? I know someone who interviewed early December and got an offer prior to my phone interview, but I still have yet to hear. Just wanted to see if its a ding or standard.Anonymous User wrote:A friend of mine got an offer today from the civil division. I'm approximately top 1/3 at CCN and wondering if not hearing about an interview yet means that I'm dinged.

this has probably already been discussed, but what are really bad grades for CCN?Anonymous User wrote:

Probably differs from 1L to 2L summer. I think the general rule is that a little below median is fine (for 2L summer at least), but anything below a 3.0 is a big red flagAnonymous User wrote:this has probably already been discussed, but what are really bad grades for CCN?Anonymous User wrote:

"Really bad" would probably be sub 3.0. Not great but not strike out 3.0-3.2ish, and then above that is median pretty much.Anonymous User wrote:this has probably already been discussed, but what are really bad grades for CCN?Anonymous User wrote:

My understanding is that B- and below is discretionary at Columbia but do professors actually give them out? Or is that why sub 3.0 is "really bad" (it wasn't just the curve but you actually screwed up)? Yeah, 3.3 is medianish though.Anonymous User wrote:"Really bad" would probably be sub 3.0. Was it for a V100 firm, or a biglaw firm? Only asking because if they're giving offers before the deadline is up, then I've got no chance.Anonymous User wrote:Done several screeners/CBs for this, and finally got an offer today

I have a screener Monday for a paid litigation internship with a major insurance company on Monday. It sounds like I would get good experience, and I wouldn't have to deal with firms wondering during OCI if I am (or why I am not) going back to my 1L firm.

why are you trying to justify not having a firm jobAnonymous User wrote:I have a screener Monday for a paid litigation internship with a major insurance company on Monday. I'm not. I have interviews with firms and would still rather do a firm.buckiguy_sucks wrote:why are you trying to justify not having a firm jobAnonymous User wrote:I have a screener Monday for a paid litigation internship with a major insurance company on Monday. I'd say you have to be patient since from what I've seen hiring process is really starting to pick up lately, but your grades are certainly not an issue (pretty sure you knew that)Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Not sure if you found an answer. Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
I received a summer PI offer, but it's not in my first-choice city, and I'd really like to hold out hope of landing a 1L SA position, even though it's extremely unlikely at this point. My worry is that I'll turn this down and not be able to land anything else. Should I accept the offer or keep looking?

sorryjust saw this. Top 5% at a T3. Thought it was worth a shot at the OC office (since not many people want to be in OC)Anonymous User wrote:Sorry Chimera. Mind sharing the office?Chimera2016 wrote:Applied to Orrick last night at 11pm... get the ding today, at 5:09am. Wha the fuck
If anything, the auto-dings are better IMO. I assume they have filled the position(s) already and just haven't taken down the posting.

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
what are everyones thoughts on a during an internship with the FTC (unpaid, but sounds interesting as F... Busting interner scammers/large corporations)... or take a paid (20 an hour) firm internship...
Money would be nice, but FTC sounds really fun and I think a gov't agency always looks good on a resume (esp when that resume has multiple other firm experiences on it...)

Yeah professors do actually give them. I don't know the exact number given but it could be more than 5% in some classes.Anonymous User wrote:My understanding is that B- and below is discretionary at Columbia but do professors actually give them out? Do you submit grades only to those firms that requested them or to all other firms that did not reject you yet?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
