Moving on to second round at McAndrews (Chicago) and first round McDermott

Is there a general process like 2 rounds and then offer or does it really vary a lot by firm?

Varies

Typical big law model is screener interview with one or a couple attorneys first, then an extended callback interview with multiple attorneys if you move onto the next stage. After that, you get an offer or a ding

Not sure if it's different for 1L but McDermott hires into practice groups so make sure you have something specific to articulate there.

will firms fly you out for a screener for 1L hiring? I assumed most screener interviews for 1Ls were preliminary phone interviews; idk thoughsince I haven't had any yet :lol:

Usually it's a phone or Skype screener, if they fly you out before a screener is done then typically they are going straight to what is normally known as a callback and skipping the screener stage

what's TCR for interning with the DAs office? mass mail? i'm liking crim pro so far, but I don't plan on gunning for PI post-grad so I'd like to experience it now (assuming I don't get a biglaw SA)

would I get to attend any experience with trials? i'd like to be a litigator

Do it man. I think you probably get the chance to come out of it with a few cool stories to share during OCI, plus, I assume a firm will appreciate that you had what's probably like a third semester of LRW.

im told mcdermott's first interview is 2-3 hours with multiple attorneys (4-6) and you in a room. talking chicago office only. nerve wracking. wonder if there is another round after that

Median pwnd at CCN. I had callbacks with a few firms in late December that went very well. There was never any mention of requesting grades, and both firms said I could expect to hear from them in late January after they had interviewed more candidates. Anybody have evidence anecdotal or otherwise that firms in this situation would request grades after 3 weeks of radio silence? Obviously I would be happy to never have to provide them, but now I'm nervous that I might get a grades request instead of an offer.

I know some people who were hired for firm gigs in Texas without ever sending in their grades. They obviously had some other pull -- HYS, URM, good previous work experience -- but firms don't interview people they aren't interested in.

Does it matter whether you take a morning interview + lunch or afternoon interview + no lunch? I feel like I'm much more put together in the afternoon. Also (and yes, I'm aware this is stupid and I need to get over it), I'd be stressed about the lunch, which sounds awkward.

It's up to you. One has a nice, (usually) chill lunch and one doesn't. That would be my own personal guide.

We probably know the same people. People I know that meet at least 2/3 of these or similar criteria already have offers.

Meanwhile, I've meditating in radio silence for a minute.
