This! It was a bigger factor for me though. I'm loving my clerkship hours (yay evenings and weekends!), and I knew I wanted to work in government when I chose to go to law school on scholarship over some higher ranked schools.

Besides, I like ramen noodles. I'm sure they'll taste even better when I'm home [in my 400-sq ft studio in Queens] on the weekends.

Yes, definitely email the DOJ. It couldn't hurt to ask State if they would give you more time, though that's likely not to go anywhere. Is the deadline the end of the year? I think the Honors Program was also 28 days or the end of the year. Might be a bureaucratic thing.

Also, have you considered splitting between the two? I know this is possible with SLIP, not sure with State.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll definitely ask the State for an extension. I was at the AG last summer, and the job this upcoming summer would be at a different bureau in the office. I mean splitting the internships would be something to consider, but the DOJ SLIP is the program I want this summer. I want to do something different in government work - and moving on to the Feds is a big step up. So if I end up not getting the DOJ - I never expected to make it this far in the first place, so I would be shocked if I actually end up getting the SLIP - going back to work for the State would definitely be a welcomed fall-back.

Sorry I misread or misunderstood your first post. I thought you meant the State Department. You could maybe just back out of the state position if it comes to that, though those things are tricky. Good luck.

Ditto. I'm assuming since Deana is out of town she didn't want us wreaking all sorts of havoc on her inbox when she can't respond to it.

From Deana:
Greetings: I'm back in the office and going through email and updating hiring status. I don't have updates to post right this minute but will do so as soon as I can touch base with my colleagues in the hiring offices. Best, Deana

As of this morning, we show 192 HP acceptances. It appears that EOIR is still actively in the process of issuing offers. I think all the other components have made their offers for the time being and are awaiting responses. As components complete their hiring, I will continue to post updates and send email messages to remaining finalists. Thank you for your patience.

If there have been 192 accepted offers and there are ~210 positions, we should be close to being done.

Civil and Civil Rights are done. I can feel the death knell coming for my ATR finalist status. Eek.

From Deana, re: ATR:
Greetings: I've received inquiries about the status of the Antitrust Division's HP hiring. Antitrust's hiring coordinator is out of the office until next week, but there are 14 recorded HP acceptances as of today. Antitrust advertised 14 vacancies. It has not confirmed that hiring is complete.

Did anyone hear anything from the US Attorney's offices that were unofficially hiring?

I don't think the HP had any USAOs as informal participants. Are you asking about the SLIP?

Questions about start dates:

I am wondering if the start date for the program is generally negotiable?? I am finishing up a clerkship in the beginning of September and wanted to take a short vaca before I start the big girl job. Any one have an idea about this?

Yep, after you get a positive adjudication of your background investigation, they send you a tentative start-date (September-ish). That start date can be negotiated to a mutually convenient date with your office, so long as it's before the end of the calendar year. :D

Any other EOIR hopefuls hanging in there? I hope we find out soon. I pretty much gave up at this point

I was given a slightly different answer. I was told we would be given the option of three start dates: mid-September, early October, mid-October. But I am not headed to Antitrust, so the answer could vary by componet. Either way, sounds like a vacation is in order!

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
