Because there would need to be an absolutely massive amount of delayed bids or bids that haven't trickled down yet in order for this to end well for the people median or lower.PM61 wrote:Could someone who is freaking out (and has read the e-mails from career services re: continued entry of pre-selects/alternates) please explain to me why they are freaking out?

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
Everyone was told to bid NY for safety. Pretty much everyone I knew was like "well I don't want NY, but I should throw a few bids there I guess," which absolutely killed the city. I'm glad I "sort of" saw this coming and threw in some DC bids even though I have no desire really to work there.

I try! Glad you caught the sense of humor. Yeah, I totally agree with you. Is DC seeming easier this year? Seems like no one has really talked about striking out there, though maybe just because people don't bid there if they could. Anyone know? More specifically, anyone hear from Covington DC yet?Anonymous User wrote:Funny.Anonymous User wrote:Dear 0Ls,Anonymous User wrote:Dear 0Ls,

If you go to UVa, work really hard to be top of your class. If you're lower than that, life won't be a magic carpet ride. Given the economy, not too surprising.
In any case, I don't think the issue is a pre-conceived notion that there would be a magic carpet ride to the top. Everyone knows that it's hard out there. It's that people who seemingly got decent grades and appear to have bid appropriately on NYC are doing way below expectations.

I have a "Not invited" but I'm not sure if it's real or not. I don't think I've seen anyone with a pre-select there yet. What about Cleary DC?Anonymous User wrote:More specifically, anyone hear from Covington DC yet?

Non-UVA poster here. Anyone out there bid heavily on CA? I'm curious if pre-selects were a slaughter there as well.

Haven't heard from Covington yet, but did extremely well in DC so far (top 10% + WE)Anonymous User wrote:I try! Glad you caught the sense of humor. Yeah, I totally agree with you. There's no "were." How many different ways can the rational folks in here say this? The process isn't finished yet.Anonymous User wrote:Non-UVA poster here. Anyone out there bid heavily on CA? I'm curious if pre-selects were a slaughter there as well.

I'm top 20%, threw them 8 bids, got back 2 preselects and an alternate. I did better at the bigger firms, obviously. I would also like to emphasize, as others have, that the process is likely incomplete.Anonymous User wrote:Non-UVA poster here. Anyone out there bid heavily on CA? the process isn't done but it has certainly begun and a lot of stuff is out. so even though everyone knows more movement is gonna come, if you're one of the people sitting here with 0-5 preselects, its probably not comforting.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I agree in general that things will naturally resolve themselves to some extent as the people at the very top are forced to decline preselects, however, the insistence that things are going to do a 180 because KD told you not to panic is wishful thinking. Pretty sure NYC got overbid, but that's just my first impression.

Define "a lot." There were nearly 600(!) offices that signed up to come to OGI. Based on information in this thread, we currently know about less than 100 of them.Anonymous User wrote:the process isn't done but it has certainly begun and a lot of stuff is out. so even though everyone knows more movement is gonna come, if you're one of the people sitting here with 0-5 preselects, its probably not comforting.

If this is true then that is comforting. But how do you figure those numbers?bgdddymtty wrote:Define "a lot." There were nearly 600(!) offices that signed up to come to OGI. Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
I think that number is entirely false. <100? People have heard from well over 40 DC and 40 NY alone. Not to throw in some of the Texas, ATL, Richmond, etc. firms. Even if those results are incomplete, a lot of results ar eout.
I would estimate that much closer to 2/3 of the preselects that will be coming have already come (ignoring the alternates that will turn to preselects after this round). Given the fact that people have received well over 20+ in NY and DC already, it seems correct to me.
<100 out of 600 is entirely wishful thinking.

I just had another secondary market preselect show up; not even sure the firm pays secondary market rate though.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
How many alternates does a firm have? And do they rank their alternates or is it lottery-ish for giving alternates interviews?
Also, slightly below median here and 9 preselects, 7 alternates. Bid all southern markets.

Not at UVA student. This seems like a NYC bloodbath. Should I change some of my NYC bids to DC??? EEK!

This is the sort of thing I like to hear. People had already gotten GDC NY, and more GDC NY results are still trickling in. Let's stay off the edge until Monday, folks.Anonymous User wrote:Medianish
