I agree, I was top 20% at c/o 2012 oci and I got the feeling I wasnt close at all to landing anything. I did about 20 screeners, a mix of gov., large and mid firms. Only had 1 cb

7% big firms and 10-15% overall oci hires sounds accurate.

Sorry, should have clarified: Summered at V-50 as a 2L SA and got a full-time offer about two weeks ago.

3L here: DO NOT GIVE UP. Keep on applying to big firms that have post-OCI postings on HCO. These do appear from time to time, so don't miss out on those.

Mind you that although I'm not an amazing interviewer, I don't think I ever did anything dumb or come off as supremely awkward. I'm telling you, just do your best at EVERY SINGLE CB no matter what happens.

Not really. You can't blame yourself for this stuff because so much of it has to do with luck and it's all a crapshoot. However, I do think that my last CB worked out because by then, I didn't give a fuck. In my head I was thinking, "I've interviewed with just about every single fucking firm out there. I have gotten rejected by all of them. I'm going to do this CB and I'll give it my best shot, but I probably won't get it, so no pressure." This no-pressure mentality calmed my nerves and I did not overprepare for that CB.

Also, I can't tell you guys enough to not obsess with recruiters' / attorneys' reactions. I had a CB with a firm and their recruiter literally made it seem like I had it in the bag. Next thing you know, I got a rejection. You just never know with this stuff, so don't even waste your time trying to analyze. Spend your time networking, applying to HCO postings, and doing well on the CBs that you do have.
