Gotta agree with this. I don't feel like it's difficult to meet bangable people that aren't at the same firm as you.Banshee wrote:I'll say it again....DON'T SHIT WHERE YOU EAT!!! It doesn't matter what the reason is (possible no offer, bad rep among your cohort/firm, etc...) who needs the drama?!? Trust me, there are plenty of other people for you to hook up with that don't include someone you will be working with/seeing every day for the next however many years.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
Same anon from earlier who posted about the working summer. Still very much a working summer--lowest billable hour day has been a little over 8, highest has been around 12. I think people appreciate that I'm working hard but I'm a little worried about my work product. I get very specific questions and often can't find the caselaw that has the answer I want. Is this just the nature of litigation?

Plaintiff's counsel bangs defendant's counsel and vice versa. That's how the profession avoids inbreeding and conflicts of interest. This is basic stuff, guys, unless you want to wind up like those pasty 'V10' hemophiliacs over at Weil.

So how do you deal with wanting to stay later because it's new and interesting with out rubbing someone the wrong when they recommend you go home?Anonymous User wrote:Yeah my Texas experience was odd, people insisting I leave at 5. I hear some regions have more of a reputation for giving less work than others.
And why do they do push summers to leave early? Perhaps because they know you'll have enough when you join..

You don't actually stay when they ask you to leave right?

yea I'd be turned off (based on recent discussion I will clarify that I mean from an employment standpoint, though also from a sexual standpoint) by the summer that wanted to stay extra late because the works just so interesting!! it's weirdBizBro wrote:pancakes3 wrote:Just go home bro.

No, I didn't actually stay. And all these comments re: "being turned off" and whatnot although helpful, are kind of dumb. People constantly tell you that the summer program is a "extended interview" then when you try to do good work so that you can get the offer, you're mocked?barkschool wrote: You don't actually stay when they ask you to leave right?

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
You asked how to do it without rubbing someone the wrong way, meaning you recognized it might rub someone the wrong way. Ideally in an "extended interview" you don't want to rub people the wrong way. Seems pretty black and white based on your own logic.

Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
do you generally "do good work" at an interview? or do you just be social, go with the flow, and try not to step on any toes?
edit: scooped.
edit: do you also generally tell people that their advice while helpful is also dumb?

Damn, some law students are literally the worst.
Anyway, I can't wait to meet my summer class. I'm upset that they didn't send us a directory or picbook like cleary.

Yeah, ignore all the "advice" above. Your superiors are clearly testing you, presenting you with the path of least resistance to see if you take it. jesus christ the aspieness never ends . . . but anyways, for people who've already started, are you using your normal laptop for work or do they provide you with computers? I assumed for security purposes (not that we'll be working on anything important) they provide tech but I honestly don't know.

We got desktops in office and can log into Citrix using personal laptop at home. I'm sure it's firm dependent though.mt2165 wrote:jesus christ the aspieness never ends . . . but anyways, for people who've already started, are you using your normal laptop for work or do they provide you with computers? As I stated already, if there was a suggestion to leave, I left. I was just pointing out that it's frustrating trying to balance being social with putting out good work.Glasseyes wrote:Yeah, ignore all the "advice" above. I figured you just found people outside the profession. I feel like arguments would be ten times worse with a SO who is also a lawyer.Serett wrote:Plaintiff's counsel bangs defendant's counsel and vice versa. Not that I'm not sure you're the exception, but I've never heard a socially competent person call someone "aspie"mt2165 wrote:jesus christ the aspieness never ends . . . but anyways, for people who've already started, are you using your normal laptop for work or do they provide you with computers? Re: Summer Associate Class of 2016
for those who've already started, what did you bring on the first day? No specific instructions from the firm. Would a backpack be too unprofessional? Is padfolio the way to go? Also, bringing your laptop is almost definitely unnecessary right? I'll be at a V30 in a major non-NYC market.
I know TCR is probably "it doesn't matter/nobody will notice or care" but I'd still rather conform with what most people have done.

I'm bringing a padfolio just to keep track of my employment docs, but like you said, doesnt matter and no one will care.Anonymous User wrote:for those who've already started, what did you bring on the first day?
