Indeed. Said SBA 1L rep candidate should be found and assigned TLS supermod powers. She would clean up this thread fast. All heretics would be reeducated or banned.cookiejar1 wrote:BUNCH OF HATERS IN THIS THREAD HAVE NEVER HEARD OF VISIONARY LEADERSHIP I SEEthesealocust wrote:We have a champion:

"X" (a very close friend of mine at my school) is going to Ropes next summer; has a family friend over there who is a partner. They were discussing biglaw life when "X" mentioned how amazing it will be to have $3k a week coming in next summer. Family friend said something to the effect of, "Yeah, and I think you guys might be seeing a little more than that by next year." "X" was taken aback, and asked for clarification. Family friend smiled and said, "I'm not saying anything."
Take that for what it's worth. He could be BSing, or the family friend could be BSing, or the firm could be BSing both of them. But that's what I heard.

As she should, assuming that her opponent is not likewise promising to work to raise first-year salaries above $160K. Close friend whose family friend is a partner? Check.
Raise innuendo from said partner? Check.
Coy avoidance when pressed for confirmation? Check.
Ropes trolling? Check. [This attribute has emerged only in the last couple of weeks, but I like it.]
In other words, this was a SOLID post. Carry on, soldier.

My good friend who will be at a NY V15 next summer just received the SA compensation letter. $3,460/week.

Terrible flame. The other V15s can't go to 180 when Paul, Weiss already pledged itself to 190.Anonymous User wrote:My good friend who will be at a NY V15 next summer just received the SA compensation letter. $3,460/week.

Seeing as how W&C is neither in NYC nor in the V15, it would be more than extremely subtle.thesealocust wrote:Extremely subtle W&C trolling?Anonymous User wrote:My good friend who will be at a NY V15 next summer just received the SA compensation letter. $3,460/week.

I think that would be a pay cut for W&C summers?

Re: NY to 190k??(possibly led by Paul Weiss)
For once this actually seems like not flame.
Many firms did not match NY bonuses this year.
Select NY firms will thus be incentivized to raise salaries, because they will have the expectation that the market will not follow just like the market did not follow in terms of bonuses.
These select higher paying firms will then create real tiers among firms (i.e. not just bullshit prestige tiers) where the elite firms pay their associates more.
It's a real opportunity for market separation.

Someone needs to post a picture of the letter showing that compensation is going to $180k

Do firms actually send out letters telling people their compensation this early? I haven't heard anything, and for whatever reason assumed we wouldn't find out until sometime early next year.Hutz_and_Goodman wrote:Someone needs to post a picture of the letter showing that compensation is going to $180k

I feel like I'm on the more optimistic (naive?) side of the NYC to 190 movement. That said, I don't necessarily get where the incentive would come from to do this. What do the elite firms get from it?L’Étranger wrote:For once this actually seems like not flame.
