FWIW, I'm pretty positive that people with immigration backgrounds who put willing to go anywhere are very often sent to detained locations with no other JLCs. OCIJ doesnt want someone who needs a lot of mentoring and oversight there.

Also a lot of people have CWS on Fridays, so Celia and whoever else is making calls might be out of the office.Anonymous User wrote:FWIW, I'm pretty positive that people with immigration backgrounds who put willing to go anywhere are very often sent to detained locations with no other JLCs. If I have another offer that is time-sensitive and the potential employer needs an answer right away, do you think we can get some more information from DOJ about whether we are going to receive an offer soon? I just don't want them to tell me "you're a finalist... you're still under consideration..." etc. Do you think this would actually prompt them to pull out your file and give it another look?

If you tell them your deadline, I'm sure they'll tell you whether or not they can meet it. I don't know whether they actually will, but they'll tell you whether they can.Anonymous User wrote:If I have another offer that is time-sensitive and the potential employer needs an answer right away, do you think we can get some more information from DOJ about whether we are going to receive an offer soon? I would definitely fill out my information in the spreadsheet is somebody makes one I'm just not too sure how to use Google docs to start a document. Also if there's any other OC IJ offers made today let us know.

I got this off of the first post from last year's threat. Just curious - This google doc is from the info from people who've shared their stats on this message board, correct?

That was last years candidates though so we would have to clear it or start a new one.

Do you all think there is any explanation as to the order of offers that are going out? It doesn't seem to be following any pattern: people who interviewed in the LAST week have gotten offers this past week, etc. Do you think it's just random?

Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
Hate to say this because I don't want to freak anyone out, but I am pretty sure they rank their top 90 offers by candidate, taking into account their application, interview, and judge's feedback. Then they go through that list and say you are #20, and your top three choices are taken, but your 4th isn't, then you get that one. Once people decline, alternates get called. That is what I have been told by people within OCIJ before I applied. So unless that has changed, I think people trying to calculate which courts have given offers based on the alphabet or location are just thinking too hard about it.Anonymous User wrote:Do you all think there is any explanation as to the order of offers that are going out? I have also heard this but I have one question. Lets say you are ranked number 70 on the list so you are a first round candidate but by the time they get to you all of your choices of location are taken but you said you would go anywhere. Would they then call you and make you an offer based on what court(s) is/are left or wait a little to see if any other first round offers are turned down to give you a better location or something else?Anonymous User wrote:Hate to say this because I don't want to freak anyone out, but I am pretty sure they rank their top 90 offers by candidate, taking into account their application, interview, and judge's feedback. Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
The above makes sense, and that's what I thought if they're ranking by candidate's credentials and experience - but I know of 2 people who got offers last Tuesday, neither of them have journal experience, they both only have about 1 thing on their resume that has to do with immigration: one did a clinic but did not win their case, the other did a summer internship at a nonprofit. Neither have interned at immigration court yet. I'm a little confused as to why people with very little experience are getting offers so early on - also both of them got a location that was in their Top 5.
Also, do you think they contact references for alternates at this point, or wait until they know that they need to? In other words, what does it mean that your references have been contacted early on (before thanksgiving).

Do these people go to a T14? Or T20/T whatever?Anonymous User wrote:The above makes sense, and that's what I thought if they're ranking by candidate's credentials and experience - but I know of 2 people who got offers last Tuesday, neither of them have journal experience, they both only have about 1 thing on their resume that has to do with immigration: one did a clinic but did not win their case, the other did a summer internship at a nonprofit. Re: DOJ Honors 2015-16 Megathread
I don't see any reason why they would wait. If you said you'd go anywhere, they'll probably offer you what's there when your name comes up. They just need to staff their positions.Anonymous User wrote:I have also heard this but I have one question. I also don't think anyone should try to read the tea leaves about when references were contacted. There are so many reasons for why they might have been contacted when they were that have nothing to do with ranking/likelihood of getting an offer.

Does anyone know the locality pay for Orlando? Not finding it on the list.

If it's not listed specifically, it's part of the "everywhere else in the country" scale.

I did. But I'm having a hard time reading the scale. She said something about 51K on the phone, but i'm hoping that's just the base salary and doesn't include the locality pay.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
