Hey I was in a similar position last year and things turned out okay. Get your mass mailing on. Be flexible as much as possible on market. It could be your grades or it could be interviewing, I don't know. If you think you have the grades to be somewhat competitive try not to freak out. Just go into interviews and be genuine and yourself.

I do wish firms would all switch from snail mail rejections to email. It puts me out of my misery more quickly and saves a tree.

26 interviews and 3 cbs... I know it's bad to complain but I feel incompetent. I have a decent GPA, at least good enough for firms I interviewed with. I must thoroughly and deeply suck at interviews.

My biggest worry now is that I will be so desperate and nervous at my cbs that I will blow it.

All it takes is one offer. They called you back because they like you. Sounds cliche but it's true--just be yourself and relaxed at your CBs, and it will go a long way (easier said than done, I know). Just focus on nailing the CBs you do have.

Did you bid on firms in competitive markets? Or firms with small SA classes? Even if your GPA is in the wheelhouse of such firms, I'd say they're almost harder to land than firms with big classes, depending on the firm.

I say this because it might not be bad interviewing causing your CB yield, in which case you should be more confident for the ones you do have.

I have 3 CBs from about the same number of interviews and I'm happy with that yield because I know there will be plenty of people with none. The poster above is right about the small class sizes and competitive markets and even with good interviewing skills it's hard to get a CB. In general Michigan students are nice and pleasant to work with so it becomes difficult to stand out (in a good way) in only twenty minutes. Btw, if you haven't been dinged by all of your other interviews, there's still hope. NY-based firms are different from firms based elsewhere with offices in NY. Then there's also the fact that all of NY moves insanely quickly compared to most other places, so maybe your other firms will still pan out.

1 CB from about 30 interviews very rough grades, but the CB is with a dream firm. Not completely freaking cause I have 2 CB's from firms under 100 attorneys I arranged on my own in local market thru mass mail, but this would be life changing.

It was mostly NY. Couple of Chicago offices and couple of international ones. I am international, so it's hard for me to justify wanting to work in other markets, although I wouldn't care. Class sizes were fair, I think. Have to go back and check to make sure.

I mean, I know I should be happy with what I have. Couple of my friends don't have any because of their gpa. They are great interviewees, much better than me. Just that a flood of rejections make me want to bash my head on something hard.

Are cbs really about being yourself and hoping that you fit in with the firm? I was actually selling myself hard at EIW and might have come off as a little intense. Maybe I should stop that.

Still waiting to hear from some firms. Freshfields cb is bad news though for me. One firm told me they would consider me next summer, so I guess I have that going for me.

BuckinghamB is completely right I think. Also I think you should focus on being normal, yourself, and calm. I did a similar thing (sold myself too hard, also practiced and used canned answers) and I fell flat on my face. Ever since then I just try to be myself and answer questions as close to honestly as I think prudent and I've been much more successful.

Consider mass mailing more firms, maybe especially other markets--you're international which may make it slightly easier in that you don't have a "home" US market but I'm not sure. And again those 3 cbs are great opportunities. It means they liked you. Be yourself.
