Summer offer from an SF/SV firm stated they haven't determined compensation for next year, but it will be no less than last summer.
SF/SV confirmed to 190?!?!?

At lunch today, I had the following exchange with firm's managing partner:
MP: "I'm hearing that some New York firms might raise base associate pay for 2016."
Me: "Might they raise it $30K?"
MP: "Hey, who knows? The market went from $130K to $160K like that [*snaps finger*]"
Not flame.

Pretty sure rpupkin knows how use the anon button for proper flame. Since the post was not anon, #NYto190 confirmed.

im pretty sure all the people who were disputing NYC raises (me, DF, and I think Rpupkin) have all come around to the fact that a raise in NYC is pretty imminent. 185 (10k increase) total comp for 1st years including bonus and 210 (15k increase) for 2nd years is actually going to happen - or something thereabouts. we arent flaming.

I understand that current 2Ls who will summer at Ropes will be paid a prorated salary based on 170K.
So the question is whether this just bumps everyone's salary up by $10K, or if the salary scale is shifting up a year?
tl;dr 190 not happening, 170 is being done by multiple v50s

for sure. i mean new york is kinda the one lagging here. More and more firms in DC, Chicago, Pittsbrgh, Philly, Texas, etc have been raising salaries for the past few years. In general, law firms including biglaw, shitlaw, boutique, and everything in between have been increasing salaries the past 3 years.

So yeah, I was actually at that offer dinner and that's not what happened. What he said was that the firm has been extremely busy at a time when corporate work has slowed down at a lot of their peer firms, and that he expects that to continue. And he made a single off-hand and completely non-commital comment about how they're looking at adjusting compensation to reflect how busy people have been. In context, it was a comment about how good business has been, and you shouldn't read into it. People have completely distorted this story and now it's turned into "Ropes is increasing salaries and paying summers $X amount" even though the offer letter says nothing about that at all, it's a dumb rumor and this is a dumb thread.

Best part is that I was not referring to that dinner, because I was not at it and have not heard about it.
