Its so odd. I have more CB's through mass mailing than I do through OCI, even as a CCN transfer. Guess thats a product of overbidding.

Over 90%. They give offers to almost everyone who gets a callback. Might be different for people who got their CBs through mass mailing than through screener interviews, though.

anyone have any insights about how to spin this?

i mailed a firm in a secondary market that doesn't come to my oci about a month ago. despite following up, i've only gotten silence. i did a screener with a different firm (these are the top two firms in this market) in the same market and got a callback today. the firms are basically half way across the country from where i am.

would it be crazy to follow up with the firm i haven't heard from saying "i will be in town interviewing with another firm on date x and would love the opportunity to meet with you or someone at the firm while i am in town," or is that not proper callback etiquette?

2 quick mass mail questions:

(1) Do you guys customize your cover letters at all? (i.e., add a paragraph about why you want to work for the firm?) I have about 50 to send, and it will take me all weekend to customize everything.

(2) Single pdf for cover letter and resume, or separate?

Thanks.

I did customized cover letters and separate .pdf's and have gotten a bunch of mass-mail CB's.

My friend did this and actually got an interview from it. This turned into a CB and offer for her, so I don't think its bad form.

I customized every cover letter (adding a tailored paragraph), and split all documents into separate PDF's. I've gotten a bunch of mass-mail interviews, something like 12 out of about 50 applications.

I received a callback 24 hours ago and immediately sent a reply with my availability. I haven't gotten any response since. When should I follow up?

Took one recruiter 48 hours to get back to me regarding my scheduling call/email. Give it another day and then try again. You can always ask to speak with someone other than the designated scheduling person.

Akin Gump CB interview request. Sort of was through mass mail since my school does lottery OCI and I didn't get an interview with Akin. I sent them my resume afterward and told 'em I was still interested and they invited me in.

I've got three through mass mail and only 1 through OCI. I'm at a T25 and certainly didn't overbid.

It was the mass-mails that confirmed to me that I'm a pretty good interviewer (since a number of them became CB's quickly). That is what confused me about OCI and pretty much indicated that I had overbid. I knew I was a good interviewer yet I wasn't getting calls from the more elite firms. Its not like I was changing anything from my successful mass-mail interviews. So I'm also left with more CB's through mass mailing than through OCI.

5 CB's through mass mail, 0 through OCI (all of my mass mail interviews were CB's, not screeners). There is a strong chance I'm a crappy interviewer .

When people say CB through mass mail, do you mean you just got a CB on the spot, did a phone interview, did a screening interview in person?

Some firms will just do quick in person or phone screeners, but most will just do a full callback. If people refer to a "callback" they probably mean a full CB.

For mass mailings, have you just been sending out cover letter, resume, and transcript to firms that were not at OCI? Is it too late to bother now?

It's not ideal, but it's probably worth it. Especially in secondary/tertiary markets.

so did you end up squeezing yourself in during OCI or did they just like your resume and give you a CB?

Guess they just liked my resume. I didn't meet with them at OCI. Hell, I barely remember dropping off my resume there. They emailed me asking me to come in for a screener, and when i called to schedule, they said it would be a multi-hour meeting with a series of attorneys. They said they only call it a screener still since they haven't actually seen me yet, but it would, for all intents and purposes, be a callback.
