What's the damage so far this summer?

I was planning on walking in with nothing. I heard the first day is all tech training and orientation anyway.
idk, just because I'd probably feel funny walking in with nothing. Plus they might give us recruiting materials/event schedules or something like that. Probably just my typical law student neurosis showing.
Just do you. If you feel like bring a padfolio, bring one.

i feel you on this. I always like to be over-prepared on day 1. You just never know (also probably my own neurosis).

Should probably bring several padfolios just in case. :D

TCR is to have a padfolio. That way when the firm tries to give you one first day, you just smile and say "no thanks, brought my own." They will be so impressed with your preparedness and saving the firm money that you'll be well on your way to Offer City.

Anecdotal evidence from my friends at school: Latham, Skadden, Weil.
Is it just a coincidence that the biggest sweatshop firms have the most summer events?
No it makes sense. They're trying to yield as many SAs accepting their offers as possible then they begin the attrition process immediately in the first year.

If anyone is still shopping for anything, Brooks Brothers suits are 40% off through tomorrow (+ another 15% if you open a store card and haven't already). They have a number of other offerings (shirts, pants) on sale through either today or tomorrow. All of this is online and in stores. Alternatively, ABA corporate membership (which law students can get) for Brooks Brothers gives 30% off this Wednesday (and 15% off normally, but it doesn't stack with other sales, except I believe the store card deal).

What are people's thoughts on pocket vs. no pocket dress shirts? I only have Calvin Klein dress shirts and want to get some nicer ones but most of the BB ones have pockets and I'm not a huge fan.

I'm pro-pocket, they're great for stashing small bags of blow.

Seriously: this is less consequential than the "padfolio or no" question.

Yeah I couldn't even tell you if my shirts had pockets or not. Probably did both.

I didn't realize this was even a consideration in men's dress shirts, so I can tell you as a female I have no idea whether the men around me have pockets or not. I'm sure it's a fair mix.

I have 73% pocketed dress shirts but have only sunk $325 into protectors. I feel like that's on the low end, but maybe I'm just getting great deals???

The managing partner at my firm told us to look at the summer as "one big job interview." No offer?

Were they family sized bags or personal? Was the soda pre-chilled?

No-pocket is more formal, but it completely doesn't matter. Just go with whatever you like better. And I'm sure BB has plenty of plain front shirts, but the world of dress shirts doesn't end at BB dude -- branch out.

The hiring partner said the firm has the capacity to give out the offers to everyone but nothing is guaranteed. It kinda scared me a little.

My firm tried this, but all the associates told us an offer was really ours to lose.

It's probably just to make sure everyone shows up the rest of the week.

Only one that showed up biz casual instead of full suit and tie. Is it too early to post in the vale of tears?

It won't make any difference assuming everyone is biz casual at the firm day to day.

What did you recieve from the firm regarding dress before starting?
