Re: Northwestern OCI 2015
had 8 screeners with no callbacks so far... mix of chicago and nyc but most of my interviews so far was more the interviewers talking about the firm rather than me talking about myself. reason being is because i would say something about their firm that i liked and then them agreeing with me and giving me examples and then me agreeing and reiterating why firm x. i also ask questions about what they say so its more like a conversation. i thought this was harmless since it shows how im a good a fit (or so i thought). should i be steering the conversation so that im talking about myself more? would i be more successful if i did this? im a transfer fwiw

Re: Northwestern OCI 2015
^ I'm in the same boat. When possible, I try to ask a question after answering one from the interviewer. Most of the time, the approach leads to more of a conversation. (Still no CBs, though.)
However, at least once, the interviewer responded with some hostility to this approach by quickly answering and then asking me a crazy behavioral question. I think some interviewers like to be in control. It could be that I just draw heat because I'm under median, though.

Also no CBs...just shy of a 3.5...at what point should we start to get worried?
Most of my interviews are for Chi (stupid I know) but not much I can do about that now...

thats a good point about letting them have control but it sorta seems to go against the whole "let it be an organic conversation" mantra that a lot ppl advocateAnonymous User wrote:^ I'm in the same boat. im also wondering if the questions i ask for the "do you have any questions for us" question --> is it a good idea to ask questions specific to the interviewer?

My go to final question was always why did you choose the firm, unless they already answered it.Anonymous User wrote:thats a good point about letting them have control but it sorta seems to go against the whole "let it be an organic conversation" mantra that a lot ppl advocateAnonymous User wrote:^ I'm in the same boat. Personal opinions below -- usually good if you can get interviewers to talk about themselves/firm. It hopefully means you know the firm well enough to ask specific questions or are moving the conversation along and getting to know your interviewer better. Caveat: overly broad questions or questions that are answered on the firm's website just chew up time.Anonymous User wrote:^ I'm in the same boat. Try to follow your interviewer's lead. If you interrupt your interviewer when they are in the middle of a line of questions/topic, it could break the flow and cause confusion. You may see their confusion as "hostility". Might be careful with repeatedly throwing out questions after answers if you're doing it just to force the conversation in a certain direction or to appear engaged. If you are doing it as part of a natural conversation or when the interviewer is giving you space to do so, then you should be fine.
Not sure about "crazy" behavioral questions...I encountered very few if any during OCI. Your interviewer might just be running through a script of behavioral questions, which should be fairly clear if the interview starts and ends with behavioral questions. If you're the only student getting grilled with behavioral questions by an interviewer, then that might be something else.
Keep going. If you have not already done so before OCI and have time, try to do a mock interview w/ friends or career services. It might help spot weak points or at least give you more confidence in your interviewing skills.Anonymous User wrote:No callbacks yet in NY with 3.7

Has anyone received an O'Melveny LA CB? I'm aware they had a dinner but I wondering whether they had started CBs.
