I'll talk to my career adviser probably this week, but wanted to get some TLS perspective in the meantime.
I go to a "T1" school in the southeast and it typically places students in its state, with DC second (though not a huge portion), and the rest scattered all over. My original/more realistic goal was to get decent grades and end up practicing in real estate, land use/zoning, or environmental law for a small/medium sized firm in the state/region through networking, luck etc. Because I wanted to play to the school's regional strengths, I haven't been mass mailing biglaw firms and what not because I thought it would be a waste of time (around 15-20% at my school gets biglaw/fed clerkships). However, I was lucky to do much better than I thought - probably in the top 5-10% range. I'm super happy to get that result, but I'm a little bit lost now as to if I should alter my search and, if so, how and where to start.
Because my goal is to work for a firm or organization doing real estate, land use, etc., should I try mass-mailing big law firms? Is it too late to do that? And if I should, where would you start? There are so many firms that I don't know where to begin other than my school's 1L OCI coming up, but that's fairly limited.
Thanks for any input. I just don't know the best route to take going forward since I'm probably way behind in the search for 1L summer positions, given that others have interviewed and been offered already
