I agree. The problem is that there are some people that inevitably got the very-bottom grades, by nature of the curve.Anonymous User wrote:Close-ish. But honestly, I think a lot of these firms are looking for more than grades. I don't really buy into the GPA cutoff anymore aside from the obvious firms (Wachtell, Cravath, etc.). Re: Columbia EIP 2010 Callbacks Thread
I'm below median (solidly so, though I have no B- grades serving as a giant red flag on my transcript) and I currently have no CBs. Most of the interviews went pretty well, with some standouts (good and bad) in the mix. I've simply not heard back from most of them: only 3 rejections thus far.Anonymous User wrote:I agree. Snail mail ding Hughes Hubbard.
No CBs, 7 dings. Around or below median. Feel like absolute shit. Barely see the point of going on with this.

Re: Columbia EIP 2010 Callbacks Thread
I have 9 callbacks, 3 rejections and 11 firms from which I haven't heard a peep (all but one of those 11 now seem to have given at least some callbacks).
So am I basically rejected from the 11 firms?

Re: Columbia EIP 2010 Callbacks Thread
I have no callbacks and 7 or 8 rejections now too, but I’m solidly below median. Just think of how many people got offers last year: 70%! If you’re a median student (or even close), your offer will come. And remember you only need one.Anonymous User wrote:Snail mail ding Hughes Hubbard.

What do you mean “going on with this”? The only thing left is waiting, which is the hardest part, but what else can you do? E-mail firms asking them to throw out your information? For what it’s worth, Hughes Hubbard seems very popular this year.
Try to treat the next couple weeks like a vacation, and they will fly by. Callbacks will start soon. Firms are probably just shaking out where the top candidates will be going before getting back to median students. Everything really will be all right for students near the middle.
(Note: I’m not deluded enough to think this about myself. I went into EIP knowing that I was really borderline, and that’s fine. I will admit that writing this made me feel a little better though.)

Email rejections from O'Melveny and Cravath.
Still waiting (anxiously) on Cadwalater and Sidley, both of which I think went well. Any word from either of those firms?

Re: Columbia EIP 2010 Callbacks Thread
I'm probably hovering on the cut-off between middle 1/3 and bottom 1/3.
5 dings, 2 CBs, and still in limbo with a few firms that have already sent out the first wave of rejections.
I keep telling myself that a) it only takes one, b) half the firms I've interviewed with seem to still be silent, and c) apparently someone last year with 10 CBs only got 1 offer. Otherwise I'd have tossed myself off of my fire escape already.
Edit: I mean 'silent' as in no one has heard from them, not just me.

So people really get the sense that no news is good news? I keep thinking that if I haven't heard back in a couple days it's pretty much over for my chances at those firms.

I think if some people get rejections at a firm and you've heard nothing, there's reason to be hopeful. Of course getting a callback would be much better, but being in the mythical "hold" group beats a rejection.Anonymous User wrote:Same.Anonymous User wrote:So people really get the sense that no news is good news? I feel you buddy. I'm for sure below median, not at the very bottom but it definitely feels like I am from how many people seem to be getting callbacks. I've started looking on NALP at firms that didn't participate in EIP that still took summer associates and applying to them, and it's helped my mood some--I would suggest that, then you'll feel like you're at least doing something.Anonymous User wrote:Snail mail ding Hughes Hubbard.

True - but there's just so many firms I haven't heard anything from yet that seem to have only sent out callbacks (no rejections yet). It's not encouraging.Anonymous User wrote:I think if some people get rejections at a firm and you've heard nothing, there's reason to be hopeful.
