Just to clarify things that have been said about GDC's Stipend... It is effectively a signing bonus. They reimburse all moving/bar expenses, PLUS give you $13,333 cash that you do not have to pay back. They also give first years stub bonuses. And you can take up to 2 months 0 interest salary advance, if you want.
Yes, $13,333 used to be equal to one months salary, but I don't think they ever represented it to be tied to the salary scale. Regardless, they are WAY above market in doing this, no real reason to increase it $1600.

important to note that if you do a clerkship (like most of my gdc summer class did), gibson dunn just advances you that "stipend" OUT of your clerkship bonus. they also don't pay an additional bonus for a second clerkship.Anonymous User wrote:Just to clarify things that have been said about GDC's Stipend... huge slap in the face to their most qualified incoming associates, and a big part of why i bailed on GDC after my summer. they have no business keeping up their clerk-level gpa requirements if they impose a 13k penalty for clerking.

Not Fitzpatrick. Not sure about Knobbe, but they have a unique lock step that is below market for first years. mckool smith moved to $180k. and Desmsrais moved from $180k to $200k in a continuing effort to entice students to tank their careers before they start.
And, of course, RIP Kenyon...

Actually, now Gibson does pay an additional bonus for a second clerkship.

From people I know that have left, it is my understanding that Finnegan has been bleeding partners (and thus associates) for a while which is probably related. Others in this thread have hypothesized that pros heavy IP shops don't have the margins to make the raise as well with increasing pressures on costs and fixed fee work. It doesn't seem that far off in my experience, although I'm not sure how the Finnegan lit practice is doing these days.Abbie Doobie wrote:even sterne raises before finnegan. this does not look good for finnegan
I would prefer the IP shops get on board with this whole thing though instead of continuing to dick us all around. Need it to boost the IP pay at the GP firms in secondary markets.

BETA biglaw associates MEEKLY accept whatever CRUMBS partners have deemed sufficient, CONTENT to finally start planing a wedding after a 2 year engagement to their MODERATELY ATTRACTIVE fianceés.

Already posted in Texas thread, but news is that FulbrighTTT is going to 180, effective in October, but not a true match across the whole scale.

Apparently back in 1987, the average PPP was five times the first year salary. So right now we really should be pushing NY to 320.

Average PPP in 1987 was 324,500, which is five times 65,000, the first year salary then. Average PPP today is 1.61 million, divided by five is 322,000. (Of course not considering the drop in PPP that would result from such a raise).bern victim wrote:not sure you thought the math through all the way thereAndroidLawyer wrote:Apparently back in 1987, the average PPP was five times the first year salary. This implies that S&C ought to be paying the same for the HLS magna kids they demand as Stroock does for median at Vanderbilt.AndroidLawyer wrote:Apparently back in 1987, the average PPP was five times the first year salary. So right now we really should be pushing NY to 320.
