A simple check with NALP will show that the offer rate at the firms you'd get at a OCI/EIW was about 97%. You'd really have to try to get no-offered. Hell--A simple check with NALP will show you the offer rate of your firm. You'll likely never see more than one no-offer.

Came back from lunch and noticed I now have glorious dashes of sauce on my shirt. With 3 hours until I can reasonable duck out, I can either wear my trenchcoat around the office, or go Pollack on myself and call it a stylistic choice.

I'm working in-house and my boss keeps giving me contracts to "review". I'm a 1L so I have no idea what to look for. What the hell am I supposed to be looking for?

I know of at least 3 people here who were no offered. Don't forget that southern markets don't give 100% offers generally.Jency wrote:SAs you will enjoy your summer once you calm your anxiety. Everyone at my firm was offered, all of my friends were offered, and the friends of my friends were all offered. Actually, I do not know of anyone who was not offered and this includes friends of SAs. I have yet to hear anyone say that they knew of, or heard about, someone that was not offered.

I had a similar assignment and basically I would just write up 1-page executive summaries and a list of things I think a closer look should be given to. My understanding was that my job as a 1L SA was just to make people's lives easier by not having to read through entire contracts, and I got the added benefit of familiarizing myself with the way contracts were draftedAnonymous User wrote:I'm working in-house and my boss keeps giving me contracts to "review". I somehow managed to eat overstuffed tacos in my suit yesterday with no mess. Felt pretty accomplished.

You'd be surprised how stupid some SA's are though. You're not asked to do much, but when you're asked to do something... do something. And don't ask stupid questions (i.e. the below)
I had an SA e-mail me 3 weeks ago on a deal i'm working on to ask whether something is a "real deadline" or just a "fake deadline" (he/she actually used those terms) because he/she was worried he wouldn't be able to make it because of summer events that week.
I've heard of other random anecdotes like that too. Just do what you're told - nothing less and nothing more and you guys will get offers.

Is it cool if we just TLS when there's literally no other work to do? I'm not gonna ask for a new assignment Friday at 3pm. Also (NOT THAT ANYONE DOES THIS) how much creativity should we use in billing free time

I wouldn't on your computer until you get an offer. But you can screw around on the net generally if you have nothing.Danger Zone wrote:Is it cool if we just TLS when there's literally no other work to do? Either don't account for your time or say "legal reading." That is codeword for fucking around.

According to chamber associates it seems most firms hired fewer 2014 associates than in 2013. So much for a recovery.

You're a bastion of wisdom DF. I do all my personal browsing on my phone anyway. And I have to enter a certain number of hours per day, so the latter suggestion will do.Desert Fox wrote:I wouldn't on your computer until you get an offer. 7 hrs of anything. I don't use the firm wifi because summering has made me a paranoid person.
