Its not to late to massmail New York, right? I can get out a ton over the next day or two, but don't want it to be a complete waste.
Yeah, I'm know I'm stupid for not doing this already.

Just got my first (and so far only) offer from a Vault firm in DC that I mass mailed back in July and followed up with a couple weeks ago. This shit works!

Let them know I was going to be in the area. Ended up not being able to squeeze it in while I was there, but they flew me out again.

-56 screeners from OCI and off-campus programs. 5 callbacks, 4 accepted. 0 offers so far.
-Mass-mail: 6 screeners, 5 accepted, 3 callbacks. Also, 4 direct to callback, 3 accepted. 1 offer.
So yeah...mass-mail is your friend. Without it, I may well have struck out.
Also, I'm not sure what's up with these numbers. OCI makes me look like a pretty bad interviewer (~9% conversion of screeners), while mass-mail makes me look awesome (60%, plus I haven't done one of the screeners yet). Maybe I have a better presence on the phone than in person? Maybe it's tough for me to stand out when I'm competing against 20+ of my peers, but I look perfectly fine when there's nobody to compare me to? Or maybe mass-mail screeners are more just making sure you don't totally suck.
Also, it's not too late; I got a callback today from a V25 (followed up this week, screener on Friday).

Lower T-14 Transfer
- OCI: 25 Screeners --> 1 CB, no word on offer yet
- Mass-mail: 4 Screeners --> 1 CB (no word on offer yet), 1 rejection, 2 screeners scheduled next week

Certainly getting to the point of despair soon. One CB (so far) from OCI, 1 screener from ~ 200 mass mails and got dinged. Top of class at a T2. I'm not giving up and continue to mass mail, but this stuff is a downer.

First off, it might just be statistical noise based on a small sample size.Anonymous User wrote:Also, I'm not sure what's up with these numbers. That said, I do think it's normal. Conversion rate for lottery screeners is likely the worst since the firm never indicated that it was interested in you prior to the screener. Conversion rate for preselect screeners is likely in the middle since the firm has indicated it likes you but this is more in a relative sense since they've only indicated that they like you more than the other people. What I mean is that they already intended to screen a certain number of people at the career fair/OCI, getting an initial interview just means they liked you enough compared to the other people they could have interviewed (plus some firms do OCI at a school more as a favor to a school administrator than as a way hire people, though this is rare). Conversion rate for mass mail screeners is likely the best since the firm indicated they like you and they were really under no obligation to screen you in the first place, they could easily have just passed on you. Note that while your conversion from screener to callback with mass mails may be high, remember that your conversion from application to screener is likely quite low (look at how many mass mails get rejected or not responded to).

Fair. That just emphasizes the value of volume with mass mail. My conversion rate of interviews has been about 3%, but times about 300 applications that adds up to ten interviews with firms that clearly liked something about my resume.

Bottom 1/3rd at a lower T 14....Over 250 massmails, 4 screeners, 2 cbs and 1 offer (and the other pending), 19 OCI Screeners, 3 cbs (all pending).
Massmail works, but it needed to be done early and done well.

I have a question. When you mass email, are you just at the mercy of the firm? Meaning, how long does it usually take for someone to email you back about being interested in your resume', and if that time passes, when is it acceptable to follow up with the firm? Or do I just have to wait for someone to email me back and accept it if they never do. I'm trying to dive into a fairly small market and I can't afford to be making "enemies."

I hope this isn't serious. Follow up if you haven't heard anything in a few weeks or whatever. You aren't going to make "enemies" by calling or emailing to express continued interest in a firmAnonymous User wrote:I have a question. When you mass email, are you just at the mercy of the firm? I've been mass mailing but still don't have an offer. Is there any markets I can still try that I might have a shot in?

This question is much too vague. But the answer is probably: apply to all of the markets, starting with the ones with the most jobs/your best ties/least parochial and then go down the list from there.Anonymous User wrote:I've been mass mailing but still don't have an offer. Re: Reminder: Stop Reading Tea Leaves; Start Mass Mailing
I just got a summer offer from a small IP boutique after a CB which resulted from mass mailing. It's my only offer so far (not surprising considering I go to a TTTT). It's not a traditional SA but they do hire summers. Bottom line is, I'm in a MUCH better position now that I mass mailed than if I didn't. So if you think it's a waste of time and are questioning doing it, just do it. The rewards of mailing are much better than the actual work that goes into it. Thanks to this site as well, because I probably wouldn't of known how to do it properly and when, ext...

Just got a SA with a 40 attorney firm in a secondary market after striking out at OCI and a MM callback that ended in rejection. Thanks TLS! Hopefully some more good news on the MM front.
Mass-mailed in July, response/interview/offer all in November.

Mass-mailed NY, DC, and parts of PA back in August. Received an interview from 1 small firm, but it was for the semester (did they not read my cover letter??).
Sent out hundreds, got one call. It's not working for me

I now have a job offer and it's because of this thread. Sent out letters in Nov., got 5 interviews across several markets. Mass mailing works; it's never too late to start.

below median at a T2 in nyc. How should I target my mailing? Is it too late? I've been trying to network, but want to start this too now.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
