I have it on good authority that Judge McBryde (N.D. Tex.) is done hiring. A friend of mine just got hired by him.

Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
I have an interview with a D.ct. judge this week, and I'm sure it's because of a family connection, not because of grades. My grades are OK, but not great, but there is a strong upward trend in substantive classes during 2L. Should I tackle that directly in my interview? Just say something like "I know my grades are probably below what you like to see, but..." and give an explanation? Or should I just let it be?

Back down to 36 on the CoA hope list:
DC: Randolph
First:
Second: Winter, Newman, Lynch, Straub
Third: Vanaskie
Fourth: Shedd
Fifth: Benavides, Graves
Sixth: Cook, Guy, Clay, Keith, Siler, Martin, Griffin, Stranch,
Seventh: Bauer, Coffey
Eighth: Melloy, Bye, Riley, Shepherd, Loken
Ninth: Kleinfeld, Schroeder, Tashima, Rawlinson
Tenth: Porfilio
Eleventh: Hull, Kravitch, Barkett, Carnes, Fay
(These are CoA judges we have not heard made calls, bold indicates Judge has history of late calls)
This is not comprehensive, that it did not start from a list of all CoA judges, so if there are others you think have not been mentioned, please let me know.

Re: 2012 Clerkship Application Thread
Sorry if this is already answered, but is it wise to call a judge and ask if they're still hiring and haven't made calls, etc., and then have a prof call on your behalf?
(is this what parlaying is?)

Let it be. Let the judge raise the issue and don't point it out any more than you may have already in an addendum or anything else. Emphasize your strengths.Anonymous User wrote:I have an interview with a D.ct. judge this week, and I'm sure it's because of a family connection, not because of grades. Don't contact chambers just to ask if they're calling/hiring. Parlaying is when you have an interview in the area and are trying to get another judge in that area to meet with you because you don't live reasonably close to the court.Anonymous User wrote:Sorry if this is already answered, but is it wise to call a judge and ask if they're still hiring and haven't made calls, etc., and then have a prof call on your behalf?

Per a call to chambers, Judge Barkett (11) is still considering OSCAR applications. No clue if she has already made calls though.

Add Judge Hug on the 9th. Everyone I know who's applied to him thus far has radio silence.Anonymous User wrote:Back down to 36 on the CoA hope list:

From what I understand via someone who spoke with Judge Hug last week, Hug is considering either retiring completely or cutting his workload to almost nothing (just motions that will not require oral arguments) due to health concerns. Consequently, he may not be hiring at all for 2013.

Got letters from Thacker (4th Cir.), Broomfield (DAZ) and Canby (DAZ) saying that they are not hiring or are done hiring, FYI.

i'm planning to do so today. friday felt pretty aggressive to me and today feels like it's still far enough away from my interviews on thursday and friday that it's not rude, but also not bugging them on the day they may or may not have been trying to set up interviews initially.Anonymous User wrote:Were we supposed to parlay on Friday? No news here for IA, MN, WI, or IL. But I only sent out 13 apps, 12 of which were d-ct. and I'm probably disfavored as a student in a T50 in the southeast. So don't give up hope.Anonymous User wrote:What up flyover peeps? Any news in IL, IN, MO, KY, MI, MN, OH, IA, WI, OK, KA?

Successfully parlayed a D.Ct interview in a secondary market (think DMn/DCo/EDMi/EDMo/DOr) today.

I'd be interested in more info on NDTX and EDTX judges as well.

Judge Springmann in Fort Wayne has called (I know two people who have received calls). Radio silence for me in the midwest though, and I applied to most every district judge in the region.Anonymous User wrote:No news here for IA, MN, WI, or IL. Phone call from NDTX judge this morning. Indicated he made calls this past Friday and a few more today, and is pretty full for interviews.
O'Connor apparently hasn't made many, if any, calls yet. I've heard he does his first round of cuts by committee and that they haven't met yet.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
