Last year we got results posted at around 10:30 AM on Thursday, 7/29. We had a shorter turn around to accept or decline, and "not invited" was the lingo that meant a firm had not extended and interview to a candidate.

The only people I know who got 30+ pre-selects were around top 5% or better grades wise, so I always found the earlier projections a little suspect, but these results seem particularly strange.

If you have top quarter grades, you should be getting a lot more than three or five NY preselects unless you included Hitler Youth on your resume or something.
It doesn't make sense. I was preselected by Jones Day and Gibson Dunn, alternated at DPW, Skadden, Wilkie and a few others and denied everywhere else in NYC. That just doesn't make sense, right?

(Top 1/4, NYC)

How is that possible?

Stats?
Top 20% bidding almost all NYC. 16 preselect, 3 alternates. I just missed most of my reaches, so I'm a little bummed.

wtf are people freaking out? The majority of the people on this thread are freaking out. Just wait until tomorrow morning. Clearly if everyone who expected interviews with top grades are not getting them, then obviously all the firms are not out.

The problem is that some people got a lot of preselects and others didn't, leading one to believe that the other person just got screwed.

You gotta believe that Donovan and the OCS staff are sitting in a conference room, eating pizza right now, updating the Symplicity system while also reading these freak-out posts. From their point of view, it's got to be kinda funny.

I know, but a majority of people did not get that many preselects. We all bid on different things. So i think the best thing is to wait until the morning.

Because not all the firms are in yet, I would think.

I'm top 15%, almost all NYC. I'm going to post the firms that I have heard from as to a pre-select or alternate. I guess that if you have a "not invited" from one of the firms, it's probably not a good thing, though it's possible they haven't updated everyone yet.

Pre-select (all NYC unless noted):
Sidley Austin
Wilkie Farr
Milbank Tweed
Gibson Dunn
Akin Gump
Cahill
Covington
Skadden
Jones Day
Cadwalader
Seward & Kissel
Katten Muchin
Brown Rudnick
King & Spalding
Curtis, Mallet-Prevost
Baker Botts (DC)

Alternates (all NYC):
Simpson Thacher
Dechert
DPW
Schulte Roth
WilmerHale
Freshfields
Baker & McKenzie

I'm in the same boat as most of you: A lot of firms that I would have considered a sure thing are showing up as "not invited," BUT some firms that were a reach are showing up as pre-select. I point you all to Dean Donovan's e-mail that said that several firms missed the 11 p.m. deadline (one of which had just added three rooms). I think what this means is that results will 1) be "more final" tomorrow after 10 a.m. 2) some firms have not yet responded and won't even have their bids in until well after tomorrow's 10 a.m. deadline, and, 3) (and this is a guess) — the default in Symplicity is to say "not invited" until the firm's pre-selects have been entered. If not, we can all get together and cry in our beer tomorrow. Until then, get some sleep.

This will only be so helpful, since I didn't bid NYC/DC, but here are the firms that I can confirm have made choices:
Akin Gump (Houston)
Alston & Bird (Dallas)
Andrews & Kurth (Dallas/Houston)
Baker Botts (Dallas)
Carrington Coleman (Dallas)
Exxon Mobil
Fulbright & Jaworski (Dallas)
Gibson Dunn (LA)
Jackson Walker (Dallas)
Jenner & Block (Chicago)
Jones Day (Dallas)
K&L Gates (Dallas)
Kirkland & Ellis (Chicago)
Locke Lord (Dallas/Houston)
Miller & Martin (Atlanta)
Proskauer Rose (LA)
Sherman & Howard (Denver)
Sidley Austin (Chicago)
Vinson & Elkins (Houston)

Are people in the top 1/4 really only getting like single digit preselects? W.T.F.

Just to further support an above quote - Bracewell Guiliani (at least for the Houston office) may be final. Had a preselect for that.

Damn it, I thought Hitler Youth would show my organizational skills and commitment to serve clients regardless of whether I agree or disagree with their views.

You mind breaking down the firms to give an idea of who's finalized and not?

Me again, seems like a lot of the "not inviteds" will turn into stuff later for people, so yeah, whoever said chill out, good advice. That being said, hopefully that'll happen soon...
