Yes got a request for a callback the day after the screener back in early Jan (IP position, HYS). IME firms are not always that quick at turning around for a callback, but so far I haven't had to wait longer than a week between screener and callback.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody hear back from McAndrews (Chi) post screener?
Good chance that I'll be turning it down in a week or two though, once I hear back from some other options. Hope you hear some good news!

Shoot. I was hoping they were just slow. It's been about a week since my screener. Btw, did you have strong ties to Chicago?Anonymous User wrote:Anybody hear back from McAndrews (Chi) post screener?

For people who has had 2 rounds of interviews, I wanted to ask in your experience how much did your first interview differed from the second interview. Was the second interview invite more about meeting the people in the office, or something else?

Not particularly, I am from the midwest but no specific ties to Chicago. I'm not sure how tie-sensitive Chicago is in the first place thoughAnonymous User wrote:Shoot. Hi, friends,
Has anyone who's applied to Skadden's program and completed the screener heard back?
Just wondering about the turnaround time--for NYC in my case.
Thanks, and best wishes to everyone!

Need some honest feedback. Finished with decent/good grades, diverse candidate but have heard nothing but silence... Is this a bad sign? Feeling a little bummed that people have offers in already.

I don't know of anyone who has a biglaw 1L SA offer already. Considering Columbia just got their grades maybe they'll be getting offers soon, but I know Harvard grades aren't out. When I ask recruiters, offers are generally given mid-late Feb at the earliest.Anonymous User wrote:Need some honest feedback. It really is kind of too bad that this thread even exists
The 1L job search doesn't matter at all but the 2L one does so hopefully this is good practice at least. I guess it's good that some of you guys are getting your hits to your ego out now, before OCI starts.
When and if you guys have questions about how this stuff all works then check out the mass mail thread and the mechanics of OCI thread. Read them in their entirety. Like 99% of your actual questions will be answered there.
The tea reading is mostly unanswerable and just there for you to torture yourself unfortunately.

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
Slightly annoyed: Asked the recruiter of a firm which office I should apply to considering my interests and ties. She advised me to apply to my home market because it would be the first time they take a diversity fellow in that office. Applied, did the call back, and then a week later a partner called and I was like
because I missed the phone call. When I called back, he told me they really liked me, but they decided not to hire any diversity fellows at all in that office. Whomp whomp. He encouraged me to apply as a 2L because they thought I was a good fit. I guess it's nice they called to explain everything, but I guess I'm slightly annoyed because I would have applied to another office had they known they weren't going to hire a 1L. Oh well, that's business I guess!
Edit: "I guessed" a lot in here... lol

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
I'm going to pop into this thread without reading it to say I hope you all are more calm/less neurotic than ℅ 2017. At my law school, I noticed that 1Ls were way way more stressed about 1L jobs than they were the years prior and that folks were gunning. Then I saw the TLS thread and it made sense.
Good luck to the people who are gunning for biglaw, I hope you get your easy payday.
Other than pay and geography, what you do does not matter at all, and you all will have *something* (even an RA position) to put on your resume and literally no one will care. This is one of the silliest things to be stressed about in law school.
happy hunting or whatever
(or, you know, you could still drop out which might be a good call for many/most)

Re: 1L Summer Job Search C/O 2018
PB&J.D. here (2L, anon b/c of notifications): This was partially answered and I imagine by now that you'll have applied regardless, but in my experience, this is a very real phenomenon. I'm from a small secondary market and, despite applying both for 1L and 2L SA positions there, was shut out--I did CBs, but no luck beyond that. I was told directly by a friend at one firm that the attorneys didn't think I wanted to stick around and was essentially a flight risk. Granted, I also managed to snag an SA gig in another small secondary where I have exactly zero ties, so it can vary. Still, this is something to keep in mind if you're interested in going home next summer.Anonymous User wrote:Anybody know whether firms "yield protect"? I'm looking to get a 1L SA in this one secondary market that I have ties to (that's where home is), but my grades/school rank actually enable me to get 1L SAs in NYC and such. I'm also pretty late to the application game in this secondary market. If the firms don't think they're your top choice and/or they don't think you'll return for a 2L SA for whatever reason, are you likely to get dinged?
