Current OCIJer here. I'm almost positive none of my references were contacted before my offer. I got an offer sometime around Thanksgiving, which I recall being pretty early. My judge at the time got a reference call after I'd already accepted with OCIJ.

I have similar stats for DOJ EOIR OCIJ:

Interview - Week 3
Finalist - 11/18
Reference Check - 11/19
No offer yet :(

You got an offer for this upcoming year around Thanksgiving? WOW I heard offers didn't start going out until yesterday from someone who contacted the office. Was it for one of your choices that you picked on the location preference sheet?

Did the people that have received offers from OCIJ thus far put down that they were NOT willing to go anywhere? I am wondering if the OCIJ process takes into account people with limited geographic preferences first, before considering persons that are willing to go anywhere?

I feel I am a strong candidate and my references have already been checked, but so far, crickets. Also, there' s not many people in this board themselves that have received offers - only people saying "my friend received any offer" or "I've heard of offers".

If anyone wants to feel better about themselves, I interviewed at the end of week one, my status changed to finalist on the first day statuses changed, I haven't had any of my references checked, and most of the courts I chose already issued offers. I'm honestly freaking out a little bit, but am hoping my fear is based in nothing. Edit: I also said I'm willing to go anywhere, and hope that doesn't end up being a mistake.

No, I currently work in OCIJ. I'm not a current applicant. Sorry for the confusion. Just dont want people who havent heard from references to freak out. It's a really slow process. You're given almost a month to decide if you want to accept. Many people end up saying no, so the process stretches out into spring.

I think OCIJ made all interviewees into finalists.

Any ideas about whether it is better or worse to have said you're willing to go anywhere?

Ditto. I agree. In case people turn down offers they will have a lot of alternates. I haven't seen anyone post on here that said their status did not change to finalist for OCIJ. I wish we knew if they have made all their primary offers yet and now the only chance would be alternate.

Did anyone get an OCIJ offer yet for anywhere but the Northeast region? I feel like everything listed so far Arlington, Buffalo, Boston and NYC is from that region I wonder if that is how the offers are going out.

That is a LITTLE comforting. Interviewed week 2, finalist on first day after interviews, and no reference checks yet. Am very worried given the crickets from references. I ranked a very small, rural office as first, so hopefully that will work in my favor? It seems like most people's references were already contacted, which makes me very alternate-ish. A friend of mine got an offer last year after her last exam, though.

Im above anon who currently works at OCIJ. I had 0 immigration background and put willing to go anywhere but received an offer for my #2 choice on the first or second day of offers.

Figuring out the weird algorithm DOJ uses for OCIJ is impossible FYI.

It does seem like a long drawn out process. They give you four weeks to respond (though you must check in after two weeks to reaffirm if you are still deciding or not).

Re: the GS scale, highest for entering OCIJ Honors is GS-12 (even with a two year clerkship or fellowship, FYI). I asked someone at EOIR about this.

My EOIR OCIJ timeline: interviewed the first week, references were contacted about a week or two after the last week of interviews, and I was given an offer today for the Northeast. Good luck to all! I wish everyone the best. It was stressful!

Anyone know the best number to call OCIJ if you have another job offer (not from DOJ) and want to ascertain your status to see if you should hold off accepting the other offer? When I go to this link: http://www.justice.gov/legal-careers/ex ... w-contacts there are a few different contact numbers and people listed. Thanks.
