I wouldn't mind some quick comments on my bid list. They're due this evening by 11pm. I tried to mix safe with aggressive, and keeping in mind expected summer class sizes according to NALP. What to bid on is a little tricky - I'm a UCLA transfer student from Davis/Hastings. Better than Top 10% first year, going to try to write on to law review. Or join a journal.

Too aggressive? Too unfocused? I'm looking to get into corporate or general business litigation, but would like to be somewhere that does a mix of things, so I can change my mind if I find something I like better.

Number of estimated interview slots in parentheses. I kind of lost focus near the second half of the bid list. My hunch is those don't matter. But my hunches are sometimes wrong.

Same anon poster as above. I dropped dla piper altogether and replaced it with MoFo. I checked NALP again for DLA and it listed an expected class size of 2. I'm not sure what I was thinking there.

MoFo SF has a pretty healthy class size, though probably hugely competitive.

Added Morgan Lewis, which I seemed to have missed during my first go-around - healthy class sizes expected too.

You know the NALP data is not very accurate right? It lists proskauer as having a class size of 5-6, when they actually are at 2. It lists Akin Gump as having a tiny class, when they really have eight or so spots.

I know nothing about DLA, but just based on common sense: would a shop the size of dla piper in LA (80 some odd attorneys) only hire 2 summers? I think they are more likely to go for 5 or 6.

(1) Besides Akin Gump, what are some other firms in LA with big class sizes? Currently I have Kirkland, Munger, Irell, Gibson, Latham, Sheppard, Skadden, MoFo, and OMM leading the pack. Any that I'm missing besides Akin (already mentioned)?

At the same time I don't want to miss out on interviews with some of those less competitive firms, because obviously those are the firms I will have the best chances of receiving a CB at. depending on your rank and the school you attended before, i wouldn't say you're out of the running at least for sidley and maybe kirkland too. sidley comes to OCI at some t30s, and someone said kirkland has an SA from depaul now. those people were almost certainly top 5%, and a minimum of 10% at their pre-transfer schools, but i am guessing you probably were too.

Your grades are closer to top 1-3%. Your top 15 looks fine, and I would be highly surprised if you don't get at least one assuming you're not a bad interviewer and don't look like a flight risk.

if it were me i wouldn't waste my time with quarles. they cancelled their summer class firm wide in 09 and had only 2 SAs in chicago last year.

Looks great, but out of curiosity, why no:

-Cravath
-Wachtell
-Susman Godfrey

I didn't think Cravath, SullCrom, or Skadden really fit my personality type (from what I am able to gather and I think there are a bunch of other great firms out there. While I know they all require a ton of hours, I just didn't get a pleasant vibe from those three. I didn't include Wachtell because their focus is on M&A, and I want to do litigation. I realize they have a litigation department, but I think I would rather go to a firm with a larger litigation practice for training opportunities and more exposure to various forms of litigation practice. As for Susman, I'm not on law review (though I'm on a supervising editor and member of the board for a secondary journal).
