Oh. In that case bird in hand just means something tangible you have contrasted with hypothetical future benefits, from the phrase "A bird in the hand beats two in the bush."
In the case of pre-select interviews v. lottery interviews, a bird in hand (pre-select) is probably closer to worth 10 in the bush (lottery), but so it goes.

Speaking of Donovan's e-mail, has anyone looked at the website for Brown Law? I'm both confused and scared that I'm not worthy enough to be accepted into The Ring...
But seriously, am I the only person who's a little freaked out by a firm website that won't even let people read their attorneys' bios?

As a newly minted connoisseur of law firm websites, this is the best law firm website ever. Ever. I want - no, need- to be a member of the Ring. I even like how they insist on referring to themselves as " Brown.", even in the body of a sentence. In other words we are so bad ass, we don't care about no stinking grammar. If I had even the slightest desire to live in North Carolina, I'd bid this firm.Anonymous User wrote:Speaking of Donovan's e-mail, has anyone looked at the website for Brown Law? If I don't have 20 or more pre-selects tomorrow morning I am definitely going to be applying there. I've always liked North Carolina.
Which chess piece am I: The pawn. I'm probably going to be a faceless, disposable bitch for years, but I'm holding on in the hope of making it to the end of the board and being richly rewarded.

They appear to be up for me.
Edit: ALL of mine are either pre-select or not invited, none have nothing. So I'm assuming some of these "not invited" will turn into pre-selects later? I hope?

3.5 with significant work experience, bid only at NYC and Southern Cali. Got 5 preselects and plenty of alternates. Very confused at this point. Hope it's better out there for everyone else.

I'm thinking that a lot of the not invited's are just not up yet, as I only have 3 preselects and was expecting much closer to 20 with my bidding and GPA, we'll just see in the morning i guess.

I think the OCS is entering the information in now. Don't start worrying until 10:00 am. Until then, enjoy what you do have.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
So we shouldn't start freaking out yet and thinking that the bad publicity on ATL and the Feb Club reputation has caught up to hurt UVa and has made firms not interested in anyone but the top 5% of our students? Or can we start freaking out now?

Fuck. I should not have checked. This is like having half of my grades in all over again. Please let there be more pre selects tomorrow morning.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
These results seem crazy, and I'm guessing it's because only a fraction of the preselects and alternates have been issued. Although at this point it's unlikely that any of you will have an easy time sleeping, I'd recommend trying to forget about this until tomorrow when things will hopefully be finalized. If you have top quarter grades, you should be getting a lot more than three or five NY preselects unless you included Hitler Youth on your resume or something.

Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
Lol @ tomorrow morning things having been finalized. You didn't get the email from Donovan saying that a "large number" of firms didn't meet the deadline, and so their selections will be behind. Of course, we have no way of knowing which firms are delayed (other than an initial, small list), leaving it up to wild speculation whether that "not invited" means lazy or /self.Cavalier wrote:These results seem crazy, and I'm guessing it's because only a fraction of the preselects and alternates have been issued. Re: UVa OGI 2011 thread
It doesn't make sense. I was preselected by Jones Day and Gibson Dunn, alternated at DPW, Skadden, Wilkie and a few others and denied everywhere else in NYC. That just doesn't make sense, right?Cavalier wrote:These results seem crazy, and I'm guessing it's because only a fraction of the preselects and alternates have been issued.
