Browsing other schools' threads, there doesn't seem to be as big of an issue of students with good grades getting completely shut out. And Yale sounds like heaven in terms of getting callbacks/offers. What's Harvard's problem? It really does suck.

Give me a break. People with good grades at Harvard are doing very well, and probably proportionally better than their similarly-situated peers at other schools. The phenomenon of the HLS student with good grades but few or no callbacks exists, but it is rare, just as it must be at other top schools. A few anecdotes of this happening do not constitute a trend.

this is slightly off topic but i'm curious as to how transfer students (from, lets say, a t20 to Harvard) do at Harvard's EIP? Does it matter if the previous school hands out grades as oppossed to H's?

Transfer from T25 to HLS here. Had very good letter grades at old school. Did very well at EIP. Can't promise anything re offers, but I've got a significant number of CBs.

A fairly wide range, but a couple are V20. I studied the EIP results from last year and bid as strategically as possible. I think I interviewed with practically every DC office that came except for a few.

Harvard removed the numbers from the grading policy page, I guess the grading scale changes every week now.....

No they didn't. The new GPA policy is detailed under "M. Graduation with Honors." I'm surprised people without DSs aren't making a bigger fuss about this, the new policy totally changes class ranking. It's a good change though, IMO.

Anyone who goes through the EIP process in good faith, bids reasonably in accordance with OCS's recommendations, and fails to get a summer position should begin withholding tuition money from HLS. The HLS administration's irresponsible policies have harmed its students, and we are under no obligation to subsidize the school's idiotic, seemingly weekly efforts to tweak its totally unthought-out grading "reform."

I did fairly well in EIP, but I cannot be the only person at HLS who is irritated by having to watch an administration that is seemingly incapable of performing even the most basic task screw with my future without my having any voice at all. It is pretty clear that, to the school, all we are is tuition dollars, so we should speak out by withholding our money.

Yale is not heaven . . . by a long shot. Plenty of us got shut out of Wachtell, Williams & Connolly, etc.

Lol I don't think getting shut out of the most competitive firms that come to interview implies that things aren't still pretty peachy at YLS.

Get good grades, do mock interviews in the weeks before OCI, don't set your heart on hard markets like DC or CA.
