Time Value of Money though. Isn't it better to have more money now vs. less money come bonus time? This is assuming bonuses decrease in amounts = to current raises. You only "lose" if your bonus goes down more than the recent increase.
My feeling is that bonus season this year is where the big boys out muscle the Crowell & Morings of the world..
On another note: Clearly, 180k was too low since every firm could match..hell, we may have been shooting low when we had 190k in our sights.

Do it. I would seriously consider it too if I was in the SF area (though as a summer I'd only be blowing $2k on it).El Pollito wrote:Tempted to blow my raise on going to game 7.

I give gifts from my trips to those who cover for thanks but otherwise my 20 days of "fuck you I'm out" is my saving grace in this world.El Pollito wrote: honestly, many did and they are awesome and i won't forget it. it just takes one person not to care. it's also harder to force people to cover when you're not super senior, so it was cool that people many years senior to me took my work on.
Right now my practice group is small but we all work our faces off to make sure others aren't fucked on their vacation. I don't mind working every goddamn Saturday but it's really important to me that when I'm gone, I am GONE

wow the seyfarth memo is aggressive. you can just silently not match instead of admitting your firm is going under.

What reasoning did said equity partner give for not matching many of the firm's that Fish competes with for talent and that Fish commonly opposes? I know the firm has been doing very well. I can't imagine the associates would take a NORAISE well at all based on recent firm performance.checkers wrote:Anonymous User wrote:I have it on good authority (equity partner) that there will be no raise.Anonymous User wrote: So was Fish. Edited to remove absolutes. I'm not interested in a discussion about whether competitors have raised or not. I'm more interested in what the partner said.

What other defense-oriented patent firms have raised?Anonymous User wrote: What reasoning did said equity partner give for not matching literally all of Fish's competitors that already raised?

Don't worry even some of the sub 1MM PPP firms have matched in NYC now so it will happen if you're in NY and at least ranked by Vault. Not every raise has been reported here or ATL.Anonymous User wrote:Today hopefully some activity. Still waiting on my ~1.5MM PPP amlaw200 firm but expect NORAISES.

I'm the vague anon from before. Management committee held an ad hoc meeting on Tuesday of this week, which is why everyone expected an announcement on Tuesday. Partners have their regularly scheduled meeting next Tuesday, which may be the cause of the delay. Bob and Susan are both in the DC office today to talk to SA. Otherwise I know nothing.Anonymous User wrote:Idk man someone on here says vaguely that they're announcing yesterday, then says oops never mind they meet TUESDAY (GOOD GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS JUST HAVE AN AD HOC MEETING), then someone else says nope today's the day. Jerkin me around like a Covington DC associate.Anonymous User wrote:Yeah, what is going on with this? With the exception of WachTTTel and Williams and ConnollTTTY (both of which are non-traditional comp models), they're easily the most prominent firm not to have matched. Moreover, all of their main rivals in DC and Boston have matched. Guess those clouds in the DC lobby really are as expensive as they say....Anonymous User wrote:Where's the anon who promised WilmerHale today?

It took months last time for matches to come in. It has been a little over one week this time. Relax.
You'll get your raises sooner or later. Except for a select few firms whose associates will die penniless in the gutter, outcast from society.

Need more speculation re: Fish. Is it possible that high-end patent boutiques will simply pay less than biglaw?
It doesn't sound totally implausible to me since the recruiting market has limited overlap (biglaw cares a lot about law school prestige and grades, patent firms care more about undergrad major, grades, and WE). It's entirely possible that a highly qualified patent prosecution candidate would not have offers from any biglaw firms. Seems less likely for litigation tho.

Regarding Fish, they have more lit associates than prosecution associates...which is why no-raise is surprising.kcdc1 wrote:Need more speculation re: Fish. Is it possible that high-end patent boutiques will simply pay less than biglaw?
