Wow, Am Law's horrendously outdated website trying to pull a buzzfeed is surprisingly endearing.

Disagree. Fish will have to follow somewhat soon because of competition (for example, with Kirkland). They may take a bit longer because ALL of their associates are paid on the same scale regardless of what office they are in/geography, but I think you will see it within the next 2 weeks or so.androstan wrote:Once DC goes fully 180, FInnegan will follow. I have it on good authority that Dechert just joined the 180 club...and it was apparently inspired by a combination of ATL's coverage and the string of recruiters who reached out to associates to jump ship.

First years are still likely making less in nominal dollars, given the $40K+ bonuses that were given out in 2007.Mlk&Ckies wrote:The only perspective from which this is "unjustified" is that it didn't happen sooner.
We are still paid less than associates 9 years ago in real dollars, and as pointed out earlier this can just come out of PPP and not client bills. I know the world doesn't cry for poor biglawyers (it shouldn't) but fuck you BofA GC for shitting on the people who have the least power and the most debt in this profession.

TBF, bonuses were a lot more compressed back then. First years got 30, eighth years got 60.WestOfTheRest wrote:First years are still likely making less in nominal dollars, given the $40K+ bonuses that were given out in 2007.Mlk&Ckies wrote:The only perspective from which this is "unjustified" is that it didn't happen sooner.

That doesn't make much sense considering how much more profitable midlevels and seniors are, so the change to a wider spread was probably a smart and equitable move.

Does this force the hand of Morgan Lewis?Anonymous User wrote:I have it on good authority that Dechert just joined the 180 club...and it was apparently inspired by a combination of ATL's coverage and the string of recruiters who reached out to associates to jump ship.

I would think so. The discrepancy would hurt them too much. The main question is whether this does anything for Philly outside Dechert and ML, and I guess as a secondary matter DE.Anonymous User wrote:Does this force the hand of Morgan Lewis?Anonymous User wrote:I have it on good authority that Dechert just joined the 180 club...and it was apparently inspired by a combination of ATL's coverage and the string of recruiters who reached out to associates to jump ship.

Here's hoping Morgan Lewis matches in all offices, which would mean they are paying 180k in their Pittsburgh office too. And then forcing the hand of K&L, Reed Smith, Jones Day. One can dream!

Now that all the big boys in Charlotte are paying 180 (~5 firms or so), it's time for those firms paying 135-140 to bump up. I'm looking at you K&S, A&B, Katten, mcguirewoods, K&L...Anonymous User wrote:Confirmed. Orrick confirmed all US associates in major markets to the NY scale with proportional increases in non-major markets.Nynaeve wrote:Any updates on Pillsbury or Orrick?

This statement is ridiculous for more than one reason. First, the highest paying firm is Reed Smith at $145k, which they just upped like last year. Second, ML's Pittsburgh office is small, which would not warrant an increase in salary. Third, Pittsburgh is a TTT city with one of the lowest COL. IMO, the associates at biglaw satellite offices there are overpaid as it is.

You sound like a New Yorker that is butthurt over spending 3k a month on an apartment while we in secondary markets live in mansions. Also, all of those firms already pay 145k in Pittsburgh.Anonymous User wrote:lolAnonymous User wrote:Here's hoping Morgan Lewis matches in all offices, which would mean they are paying 180k in their Pittsburgh office too. Anyone at firms that have already matched-- what was it like? Were there faint cheers down the hallway, or just business as usual?

Business as usual at FF. However, they're currently building a cage around our office building in NY, so I think people were happy that they weren't just going to padlock us in.Anonymous User wrote:Anyone at firms that have already matched-- what was it like?
